ICC Upper Great Plains Region III

Great News and Happenings from Region III

Minnesota and all of the ICC Upper Great Plains Region III chapters recently hosted the Code Council’s Annual Conference from September 14–23 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. They happily welcomed thousands of attendees to the Minnesota area and hope everyone got a taste of this wonderful, Midwest city. The Code Council cannot thank them enough for their outstanding effort.

The ICC Upper Great Plains Region III Annual Institute is scheduled for February 9–13, 2009 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The institute boasts a full education track and will open with a welcome event at the hotel on February 8. A dinner outing at a local restaurant is planned for February 10. On February 11–12, attendees can visit the trade show and the Code Council bookstore. On February 12, the annual Region III membership meeting will be held at 12:20 followed by the President’s Summit at 6:00 p.m. A free day of training is being offered to any Code Council Chapter President who attends.

The region’s American Cancer Society fundraiser was a great success at the 2008 Annual Conference in Minneapolis. The chapter raised $5,252, with no further donations being received. The challenge resulted from a discussion at the Region III Education Institute between Code Council Board Immediate Past President Steve Shapiro and other attendees as a way to help fight the disease. Secretary/Treasurer Chris Rose spearheaded this effort and engaged other regions to assist by collecting donations from conference attendees. Many thanks to all who contributed to this worthy cause.

Region III is currently seeking nominations for the second annual Brent Snyder award. Nomination letters can be sent to Secretary/Treasurer Chris Rose via e-mail or mailed to her attention at City of Fargo, 200 3 Street North, Fargo, ND 58102.

Attendees of the Ten Thousand Lakes Summer Educational Conference gather on the lawn for lunch. Code Council Board Vice President Ron Lynn (standing) taught “Building Department Finance Management” to the group. Government Relations Regional Manager Rita Swearingen also attended the Educational Conference at Ruttger’s Sugar Lake Lodge in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
