ICC-ES Evaluation Committee Results

The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee met February 4–5 in Los Angeles to consider 12 new or revised Acceptance Criteria. Of the 12 considered, seven were approved. Among the highlights:

AC193 — Mechanical Anchors in Concrete Elements
Revisions were approved to clarify requirements for special inspections. The committee approved revisions adopted under the 2009 International Building Code that permits periodic special inspection for post-installed anchors in hardened concrete elements. The approved revisions clarify the duties of the special inspector.

AC405 — Wood Structural Panels with Factory-applied Fire-retardant Coatings
Progress was made on the criteria, with the item ultimately being held for further study. There were two issues concerning the proposed criteria that were discussed at length: First, the need for humidity testing to document degradation of the fire-retardant coated (FRC) panels due to wetting; second, the condition of acceptance limitation for 10-percent delamination after testing for degradation in accordance with ASTM D5516. Staff recommended further study due to the lengthy and detailed testimony. Staff provided the committee with recommended revisions to the criteria based on the public testimony and stated that staff intends to present the revised criteria to the committee at the June 2009 meeting.

AC407 — Structural Composite Hybrid Systems Consisting of Structural Steel, Precast Concrete and Cast-in-place Concrete
This new criteria addresses structural composite hybrid systems, which are specific forms of alternative composite steel and concrete structural systems.

AC408 — Structural Concrete with Lightweight Synthetic Particles
This new criteria is for lightweight synthetic particles that are added to concrete as a partial replacement of conventional fine or coarse aggregate, to create a low-unit-weight concrete while maintaining mechanical and durability characteristics.
