Ekenel Honored by Missouri University of Science and Technology


Mahmut Ekenel (right) receives the Civil Engineering Exemplary Young Alumni Award from Department Chair Dr. William Schonberg of the Missouri University of Science and Technology Academy of Civil Engineers.

Mahmut Ekenel, Ph.D., P.E., recently received the Civil Engineering Exemplary Young Alumni Award, from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla) Academy of Civil Engineers. Dr. Ekenel was given this award in recognition of his outstanding professional service and support to the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering department.

Dr. Ekenel, an ICC-ES staff engineer in the Whittier office, received his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in his homeland of Turkey, obtained his Master of Science at Southern Illinois University and completed his Ph.D. and post-doctoral studies at Missouri S&T. An author of numerous technical papers Mahmut is an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Chi-Epsilon Honorary Society. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering.
