ICC-ES Evaluation Committee Highlights

AC316 – Shrinkage Compensating Devices. Revisions were approved for evaluation of tension-controlled shrinkage compensating coupling devices.

AC269 – Racking Shear Evaluation of Proprietary Sheathing Materials Attached to Light-frame Wall Construction or Code-complying Sheathing Attached to Light-frame Walls with Proprietary Fasteners. Editorial revisions were approved to clarify the purpose and intent of the criteria as a precursor to addressing shear walls and bracing under the 2009 International Codes and use in higher seismic design categories. Staff supports the formation, and will participate in, a task group to work on this criteria.

AC130 – Prefabricated Wood Shear Panels and AC322 – Prefabricated, Cold-formed Steel Lateral-force Resisting Vertical Assemblies. Revisions were approved for both criteria to address the 2009 International Codes with an understanding that an industry task group would be formed to deal with the technical issues that were raised by interested parties.

AC04 – Sandwich Panels. Revisions were approved to address use of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) in Seismic Design Categories D, E and F. These requirements are outlined in a new Appendix A to the criteria.

AC38 – Water-resistive Barriers. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes and for evaluation of self-adhering water-resistive barriers.

AC212 – Water-resistive Coatings Used as Water-resistive Barriers over Exterior Sheathing.  Revisions were proposed to address the 2009 International Codes and to address use of the coatings as air barriers. The 2009 IBC and 2009 IRC now references ASTM E 2570 for water-resistive coatings used with exterior insulation and finish systems.

AC219 – Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems and AC235 – EIFS Clad Drainage Wall Assemblies.  Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes. IBC Section 1408 and IRC Section R703.9 now reference ASTM E 2568 for the coating system, ASTM E 2570 for water resistive coatings and ASTM E 2273 for the drainage efficiency.

AC356 – Moisture Drainage Systems Used with Exterior Cement Plaster or Adhered Masonry Veneer Walls. The approved criteria was essentially rewritten to address requirements for moisture drainage systems used over wood-based sheathing behind stucco wall systems or behind masonry veneer adhered to cement plaster substrates. The drainage systems may now consist any of polymeric-based components The criteria applies to both the 2006 and 2009 International Codes.

AC365 – Building-integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Roof Panels. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes and to include provisions for BIPV plastic roof panels that are mechanically attached to a roof deck in conjunction with approved asphalt shingles.

AC257 – Corrosion-resistant Fasteners and Evaluation of Corrosion Effects of Wood Treatment Chemicals. Revisions were approved to clarify that fasteners evaluated under this criteria must be qualified first as complying with code requirements.
