Highlights of October 2010 Evaluation Committee Meeting

Chairman Theodore Droessler, and committee members Scott Marsell, Duane Hubeler and Brian Foley (not shown) were honored for their years of service on the ICC-ES Evaluation Committee.
AC25 — Acceptance Criteria for Metal Composite Material. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes, remove the requirement to verify that the fire resistance rating of a wall assembly is unaffected when an MCM system is applied as an interior finish over a fire-resistance-rated wall assembly, and to remove the requirement for testing in accordance with UL 1040 or UL 1715 when an MCM system is used as an interior finish in buildings of Types I, II, III, and IV construction.

AC43 — Acceptance Criteria for Steel Deck Roof and Floor Systems. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes, to include reference to new AISI test standards, and to revise portions of Section 4.1 to eliminate the waiver for testing for interior reactions and testing of thicker panels.

AC47 — Acceptance Criteria for Structural Wood-based Products. Revisions were approved to include provisions for thermally modified wood in the criteria.

AC118 — Acceptance Criteria for Tapping Screw Fasteners. Revisions were approved to revise Section 3.1 of the criteria to make the make the language dealing with the pass/fail criteria for corrosion testing consistent with Section 6.2 of ASTM F 1941.

AC129 — Acceptance Criteria for Steel Moment Frame Connection Systems. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes, include reference to AWS D1.1 and D1.8 in Section 1.3, add statements indicating that steel and welding materials must comply with the requirement in the applicable referenced standards in the International Building Code (IBC), and incorporate specific, separate references to the 2006 and 2009 IBC concerning special inspection requirements.

AC156 — Acceptance Criteria for Seismic Certification by Shake-Table Testing of Nonstructural Components. Revisions are proposed to revise the title and content of the criteria to refer to seismic certification instead of seismic qualification, address the 2006 and 2009 International Codes, remove references to the Uniform Building Code, add a reference to ASCE 7-10, and reformat the entire criteria.

AC193 — Acceptance Criteria for Mechanical Anchors in Concrete Elements. Revisions were approved to cite ASTM F606-06 and make accompanying modifications to the criteria in order to provide clearer guidance for the evaluation of ductility and to add new provisions to the criteria to address the application of anchors installed in the topside of steel deck assemblies.

AC230 — Acceptance Criteria for the Power-driven Pins for Shear Wall Assemblies with Cold-formed Steel Framing and Wood Structural Panels. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes, remove testing requirements that are considered unnecessary, clarify testing and analysis requirements, to expand the scope of the criteria beyond "site built" construction, and expand and clarify the requirements for evaluation reports.

AC232 — Acceptance Criteria for Anchor Channels in Concrete Elements. This new criteria was approved to address the application, design and installation of anchor channels in concrete.

AC300 — Acceptance Criteria for Acceptance Criteria for Access Floors. Revisions were approved to provide specific requirements for adhesives used to affix access floor pedestals to supporting floors instead of requiring full compliance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Sandwich Panel Adhesives (AC05) and to clarify quality documentation and inspection requirements applicable to these adhesives.

AC323 — Acceptance Criteria for Reinforcement of Openings in Shear Walls with Steel Brackets. Revisions were approved to address the 2009 International Codes, remove references to the Uniform Building Code, to add a section to permit variation in hole location within a shear wall without testing each instance, to add a section to clarify that the criteria does not apply to sheathing used to resist combined shear and uplift from wind, clarify that the criteria is applicable only to engineered shear walls, and add an appendix on conducting cyclic in-plane tests of shear walls for the purpose of permitting recognition in Seismic Design Categories A to F under the IBC and Seismic Design Categories A to E under the International Residential Code.

AC353 — Acceptance Criteria for Stay-in-place, Foam Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) Systems for Solid Concrete Walls. Revisions were approved to delete the data and analysis requirements for noncombustible recognition, to add labeling requirements for ICFs used uncovered in attics and crawl spaces, to revise Section 6.1.9 to make the attic and crawl space limitations consistent with the limitations in AC12, and to revise Section 2.1.3.1.2 to clarify the intent of ICF labeling for use in noncombustible construction.

AC377 — Acceptance Criteria for Spray-applied Foam Plastic Insulation.Revisions were approved to include language that provides clarification regarding measurement and reporting of spray foam depth during fire testing, include a requirement that coating thickness must be measured using a dry-film method, revise the conditions of use to clarify that single-component foams need not be installed by contractors certified by the report holder and to clarify the qualifications of contractors installing other types of spray foams, to include a new section under Section 5.0 to require that evaluation reports describe details of assemblies that are tested in accordance with NFPA 285 when evaluated for use in exterior walls of Type I through Type IV construction, to change to Section 3.6.3 to clarify that R-values for thicknesses between the minimum and maximum thicknesses tested must be based on interpolation, and revise Section 3.6.4 to permit specimen conditioning in accordance with the requirements of the 2010 edition of ASTM C 1029, which specifies specimens may be conditioned for 180 ± 5 days at 73◦F ± 2◦F or for 90 ± 2 days at 140◦F ± 2◦F dry heat.

AC422 — Acceptance Criteria for Semicontinuous Fiber-reinforced Grid Connectors Used in Combination with Rigid Insulation in Concrete Sandwich Panels. This new criteria was approved to address semicontinuous fiber-reinforced grid connectors that are combined with rigid insulation to transfer shear stresses in insulated concrete sandwich panels.

AC424 — Acceptance Criteria for Wood-Based Exterior Composite Trim Treated with Zinc Borate (ZB) Preservative by a Non-pressure Process. This new criteria was approved to address exterior wood trim treated with ZB preservative by a non-pressure process.

AC428 — Acceptance Criteria for Modular Framing Systems Used to Support Photovoltaic (PV) Modules. This new criteria was approved to address modular framing systems used to support photovoltaic (PV) modules.
