New Labeling Adopted for Preservative-Treated Sawn Wood

 

The treated wood industry has adopted stock labeling for ease in identifying preservative-treated sawn wood lumber products that are in compliance with the International Building Code and International Residential Code. The end tags will have easily identifiable markings for both American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) Standard U1 and ICC Evaluation Service, LLC (ICC-ES) preservative-treated wood products. The AWPA Standard U1 product will include the check mark symbol and the mark of the American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) accredited inspection agency. The ICC-ES code complying product will include the ICC-ES Trade Mark and the mark of the IAS accredited inspection agency. The industry has started adopting the new end tag identifiers. CertainTeed Ceilings Takes Advantage of ICC-ES'
Expedited Service for Its Latest Evaluation Report

ICC Evaluation Service, through its Expedited Service, has issued ESR-3336 to CertainTeed Ceilings, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain. CertainTeed Ceiling's new products, a Suspended Ceiling Framing Systems and Seismic Perimeter Clip were evaluated to the 2012, 2009 and 2006 International Building Code. ICC-ES developed the Expedited Service to meet manufacturers' growing market entry needs. "ICC-ES' Expedited Service program was extremely beneficial for CertainTeed Ceilings," said Tom Murray, Grid product manager, CertainTeed Ceilings, "because it accelerated dialogue with ICC-ES and allowed us to launch our Seismic Secure products sooner than anticipated." ICC-ES Evaluated SMART VENT Protects Property, Money and Lives

Only a few months before Hurricane Sandy devastated the northeastern United States, the U.S. Congress passed the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act (BW-12) in July 2012. Jurisdictions across the country are now asking what more can be done to protect properties that might be caught in the path of such natural disasters. The second-costliest hurricane in United States history, Sandy's effects were felt in 24 states, with the most significant and tragic losses occurring in New Jersey and New York. Active in Structural and Seismic Mitigation

ICC Evaluation Service and the International Code Council (ICC) remain in the forefront of structural and seismic issues in the built environment. As a gold sponsor of the recent Buildings at Risk (BAR) Earthquake Loss Reduction Summit, ICC-ES engineers participated in discussions regarding the strengthening of existing buildings to promote resiliency and sustainability of communities. ICC-ES Issues New Product Evaluation Reports for Powers Fasteners
that Comply with the 2003–2012 IBC and IRC

Two new ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) reports have been issued to Powers Fasteners — along with an additional product listed on the reports for DEWALT (Stanley Black & Decker) — showing compliance with the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). ESR-3471 was issued for Powers Power-Stud+ SD3, Power-Stud+ SD4 and Power-Stud+ SD6 Stainless Steel Anchors in Cracked and Uncracked Concrete. Powers Pure110+ Epoxy Adhesive Anchor System in Cracked and Uncracked Concrete complies with the 2003 through 2009 IBC and IRC as noted in ESR-3298. Continue reading story


ICC-ES PMG Receives EPA Transitional Approval to Certify Pre-Rinse Spray Valves

The ICC Evaluation Service Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) Listing Program has been transitionally approved as a licensed certifier of Pre-Rinse Spray Valves. This approval was granted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under its WaterSense program that is designed to help save water and the environment. "This recently added scope gives ICC-ES PMG a complete set of capabilities for all EPA WaterSense specifications, and gives plumbing manufacturers a better choice for their certification needs through the industry's leading product evaluation and listing company, ICC-ES," said Dawn LaFleur-Qualley, Senior Certification Program Manager. ICC-ES Evaluation Committee Considers Proposed
New and Revised Acceptance Criteria

The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee met Oct. 16–17 in Birmingham, Ala., to consider 13 agenda items. A new acceptance criteria was considered for Rigid Cellular Polystyrene (RCPS) Geofoam Used in Interior Floor Applications. Discussion on proposed revisions to other acceptance criteria included some of the following topics: Special Roofing Systems, Spray-applied Foam Plastic Insulation, Automatic Foundation Flood Vents and Anchor Channels in Concrete Elements. As of the October meeting, ICC-ES implemented time limits for testimony before the committee. Results of the meeting will be posted here. The next Evaluation Committee meeting will be Feb. 11–13 in Los Angeles.



NCFI Polyurethanes Earns ICC-ES, EPA Seal and
Insulate with ENERGY STAR Certification

As a recognized certification body for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) "Seal and Insulate with ENERGY STAR" program, ICC-ES announced that NCFI Polyurethanes earned EPA recognition for two of its products (ESR-1154 and ESR-1615). This program applies to insulation intended for use in whole wall, ceiling, roof deck and floor systems sold in the U.S. for use in residential construction. The EPA Seal and Insulate Program includes requirements for independent third-party testing and certification, reporting of thermal resistance, and surface-burning characteristics that establish compliance with the requirements of the International Residential and Energy Conservation Codes. ICC-ES Technical Staff Expand Presence in Industry Involvement

The ICC-ES technical staff continues to expand their presence in industry involvement. Mahmut Ekenel co-authored a technical note in the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management; served as a moderator for an ACI technical session on fiber-reinforced concrete, and is writing a paper for the ASCE materials journal. Russ Krivchuk, David Zhao and Nick Horeczko attended the SEAOC Buildings at Risk Summit in Los Angeles. Michael O'Reardon and Barry Johnson attended the CONSTRUCT show in Nashville. Through interactive dialogue with industry, part of a dedicated effort by ICC-ES to best serve our customers, ICC-ES is working to ensure current and relevant information is readily available that helps fuel industry's needs.
