Members Urged to Volunteer for 2018 Committees

Fresh and experienced eyes alike will be sought in January 2014 with ICC's release of a Call for Committees seeking volunteers to serve on code development, code correlation and code interpretation committees for the 2018 International Codes. FSMC Members are needed to serve on 19 code development committees, five code interpretation committees, plus the code correlation committee. The deadline to apply is June 2, 2014.

The time commitment for each of the code development committees during the three-year cycle would be between two to six days out of the office as well as up to two weeks of code research and reading time before the Committee Action Hearings held in the spring. Virtually all of the work done by the code interpretations committees and the code correlation committee are done by email and phone.

"Some people assume the interests of the fire service community are confined to the IBC, the IFC and the IRC. In reality, all of the codes are interrelated and all of the codes committees would be enriched if representatives of the fire service community were included in each of these important and prestigious committees,” said Bruce Johnson, ICC's Staff Liaison to the FSMC. "This a great opportunity to put your professional expertise to lasting use."

Although the the 2015 Group C International Green Construction Code has yet to have its hearing in Memphis on April 27-May 4, 2014, work is already under way to plan for the 2018 set of I-Codes.
