Cochran, Gibbs Re-Elected at FSMC Annual Meeting

Highlights of the FSMC Annual Meeting in Atlantic City, N.J., included the re-elections of Fulton Cochran and Jackie Gibbs as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, and a rededication to increasing membership and participation in the FSMC. The officers' election was held after Cochran, Ronny Coleman and Adolf Zubia were each elected to three-year terms on the FSMC Governing Committee.

The FSMC Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with ICC's 2013 Annual Conference and Group B Public Comment Hearings in Atlantic City. Since the event celebrated ICC’s 10th anniversary as a consolidated organization, the FSMC honored the service and gave certificates of appreciation and an ICC 10th Anniversary Commemorative Coin to Cochran, Gibbs, Dwayne Garriss and Jim Tidwell (pictured with Cochran), Tom Lariviere, Emory Rogers, Kevin Scott and ICC staff member Mel Cosgrove for their leadership in building the FSMC and its predecessor, the International Fire Code Council.

Members heard from Cochran and Steve Shapiro, Chair of the Building Officials Membership Council Governing Committee, on joint efforts between the FSMC and BOMC to build stronger relationships and partnerships in support of codes. Other presentations were made by Michelle Porter, who gave updates on ICC’s Certification Department and the BIPS Board, and by ICC Board Vice President Guy Tomberlin, who gave on update on work completed by the ICC Vision 2023 Committee.

Members discussed an ICC Membership Resolution seeking to extend the ICC Code Development Cycle from its current three-year cycle to a cycle not to exceed five years. The measure was defeated unanimously, and again by the Voting Members during the ICC Annual Business Meeting.
