CEU Credits Now Awarded
for IAS Lead BDA Evaluators

The International Code Council Board for International Professional Standards (BIPS) voted to expand the Council’s certification renewal options to provide 1.0 CEU credit for serving as an IAS Lead Evaluator for Building Department Accreditation during the last three years. This credit applies to renewal of any Code Council certification. Get the details here.

IAS held a training session on ISO/IEC Standard 17020 for Inspection Agencies in Northbrook‚ Illinois‚ a suburb of Chicago. The course offered insights on inspection equipment management‚ management of inspection personnel and processes‚ sample management‚ internal audits and management review‚ and contract and complaint handling. Ayman Mosallam‚ Director of the Structural Engineering Testing Hall at the University of California‚ Irvine‚ and a member of the IAS Technical Advisory Council—Laboratories received the Outstanding Civil Engineering Faculty Advisor award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Program Lead Assessor Certificates
IAS President Chuck Ramani presented Lead Assessor-in-Training certificates to successful graduates of the initial Lead Assessor class in Pomfret Center‚ Connecticut‚ for IAS’ new Work Force Qualification Accreditation program. Graduates participated in a rigorous training and assessment program held in October. The IAS program is the first internationally recognized accreditation for adult training and curriculum-development agencies for work force qualification.

IAS Accredits Israel
Calibration Laboratory
Israel’s A.Com Electronic Measurement Technology‚ Ltd. calibration laboratory underwent an IAS laboratory accreditation assessment for both quality and technical operations. The A.Com laboratory calibrates equipment used for electrical‚ time/frequency and RF/microwave measurements. IAS Staff Metrologists Bannicode Taranath and Hershal Brewer handled the assessment. A.Com earned IAS accreditation in May.

The IAS Accreditation Committee approved a new accreditation criteria for Inspection Programs for Manufacturers of Metal Building Systems‚ AC472. This program for the inspection of the metal building fabrication process is based on International Building Code Chapter 17 requirements and allows first preventers to approve the inspection programs of manufacturers involved in the fabrication of metal building systems. California City Earns Accreditation
Roseville First in California to Earn
Building Department Accreditation

The city of Roseville is the first municipality in California to achieve IAS Building Department Accreditation. The Roseville Building Department issues nearly 5‚000 permits and performs about 40‚000 inspections a year.

BDA Program Gains Federal Momentum
IAS Building Department Accreditation (BDA) staff and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have discussed the possibility of accredited jurisdictions qualifying for a FEMA National Floodplain Insurance Community Rating System rating. During the Building Safety Week reception‚ International Code Council Board President Steve Shapiro and CEO Rick Weiland honored IAS Board member Ravi Shah in his role as Director of Urban Development‚ Carrollton‚ Texas. Shah is one of the first recipients of the Council’s Profile Awards honoring code officials and their departments as “First Preventers.” The awards honor individuals and organizations for raising the public awareness of the work of code officials to improve public safety in the built environment. Florida Cities Earn National Accreditation

The cities of West Palm Beach and Tallahassee are the first municipalities in Florida to earn national IAS Building Department Accreditation‚ demonstrating competency in their professional services and technical abilities based on industry best practices. Tallahassee and West Palm Beach are two of only eight building departments nationwide to attain this achievement. It signifies a commitment to professionalism in the administration of building codes.
