NCSL Workshop Attendees Learn How to Overcome Accreditation Roadblocks

Hershal Brewer, Accreditation Officer for the International Accreditation Service (IAS), hosted a half-day tutorial on August 8 called "Accreditation Bodies: Perspectives on Assessing 17025, Section 5.2" at the National Conference of Standards Laboratories (NCSL) International Workshop and Symposium in Orlando, Florida. The ISO/IEC 17025 Clause 5.2 and its sub-clause requirements call for adequately trained and qualified staff with an in-place training plan that can measure training effectiveness.

Brewer’s presentation compared the ways different accreditation bodies assess section 5.2, as well as advantages, disadvantages and appropriateness of each approach.

NCSL International is a nonprofit organization with over 1,500 member organizations from academic, scientific, industrial, commercial and government facilities around the world. Brewer was the NCSL accrediting body liaison for 2007, offering support, guidance and industry expertise.
