IAS Board and Committee News

Given the increasing interest in International Accreditation Service (IAS) services in the Middle East, a new Arabic section was added to the IAS website in August 2008.

Dr. Izz Eddin Katkhuda of the Arab Center for Engineering Studies has been appointed to the IAS Board of Directors demonstrating further commitment by IAS to the Middle East and the international arena. In another significant move, a new industry representative position was created on the IAS board, and James Toscas, P.E., president of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute was appointed to fill the position. The recent addition of Dr. Katkhuda and Mr. Toscas adds significantly to the technical and business vision of the IAS Board of Directors. Read more on Katkhuda and Toscas.

The makeup of the IAS Accreditation Committee has also undergone significant changes with the appointment of three new members. Jonathan Bahr, a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada. Jonathan has over twenty years experience in the geotechnical, environmental, construction material testing, and code compliance fields.

Also appointed is Imad Eldurubi, an Associate of Innovative Group USA, a Former Deputy Building Official for Willdan, Arizona. He brings with him a solid educational background in architecture and engineering, and fifteen years of experience in code enforcement—having worked for two Arizona Jurisdictions: City of Tucson and City of Phoenix.

The third member is Alan Price, PE. Alan is currently the Director of the Office of Technical Certification and Research (OTCR) of the New York City Department of Buildings. OTCR advances construction safety and quality by governing technical certifications of approved third-party agencies performing inspections, tests and material approvals on behalf of the Department. Mr. Price has served on several technical committees including ACI 355 (Anchorage to Concrete) and ASTM E06-13 (Structural Performance of Connections in Building Construction).
