Notes from the IAS Board Meeting

In conjunction with the International Code Council's Annual Conference, the International Accreditation Service (IAS) Board of Directors met at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota to discuss strategic directions and activities for the coming year. Key topics on the agenda included a discussion of the proposed revisions to the IAS Rules of Procedure, appointments to IAS Technical Advisory Councils and review of financial reports.

The Code Council's Annual Meeting presented an opportunity for the IAS Board to meet with Council executive leadership and to talk with several candidates running for election to the Code Council's Board. The IAS Board of Directors was able to brief the candidates and the Council Board members on IAS activities, the services that it provides to the membership and building regulators around the world, and initiatives planned for 2009.

During the meeting, two new members were appointed to the IAS Board: Dr. Izz Eddin Kathkuda of the Arab Center for Engineering Studies (ACES), Jordan, and James G. Toscas, P.E., President and CEO of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), Chicago, IL.

Other members of the IAS Board include: Majed A. Dabdoub, P.E., Chair, Supervising Building Plans Examiner, City of Cincinnati, OH; C. Curtis Mann, P.E., C.B.O., Chief Building Official, City of New Orleans, LA; John L. Barrios, C.B.O., Manager, Inspectional Services Division, City of Tampa, FL; Guy Tomberlin, C.B.O., Code Specialist, Division of Commercial Inspections, Land Development Services, Fairfax County, VA; Michael W. Bouse, C.B.O., Building & Fire Safety Director, City of Henderson, NV; Isam Hasenin, P.E., C.B.O., Building Official, City of Livingston, CA. The Code Council Board Liaison is Ronald L. Lynn, C.B.O., Building Official, Clark County, NV; and a Non-voting Member is David deCourcy, Senior Advisor to the CEO and General Counsel, International Code Council, Washington, D.C.
