Chief Buildings Achieves IAS AC472 Accreditation

The manufacturing facilities of Chief Buildings, based in Grand Island, Nebraska received IAS AC472 accreditation, which is a new high-quality standard replacing the former AISC-MB certification program. It is written specifically for the metal building industry in cooperation with the Metal Building Manufacturers Association. Companies must achieve AC472 accreditation by December 31 to continue association membership.

IAS AC472 addresses primary framing fabrication and light-gauge welded fabrication, cold-formed fabrication and metal building system engineering. Those advantages of the IAS AC472 accreditation serve contractors, architects, code officials and building owners in the metal building industry.

Other advantages that expedite the building approval process include compliance with special inspection requirements in Chapter 17 of the International Building Code, elimination of additional inspections, cost savings to verify code compliance of metal building fabrication, and assurance that the metal building manufacturers' staff have a well-qualified and quality system in place.
