IAS Fabricator Program Manager Sandi McCracken and IAS Marketing Manager Greg West presented on the IAS Fabricator Inspection Accreditation Program to ICC's San Diego Chapter on February 21, and the Ventura Chapter on February 22. The presentations provided an overview of how building departments can use the IAS accreditation program to approve fabricators to work in their jurisdiction based on requirements in the International Building Code.

IAS accredits the inspection programs of fabricators of reinforced and precast/prestressed concrete, structural steel, wood wall panels and metal building systems. The accreditation process includes a pre-evaluation of the fabricators quality manual and onsite assessment of the facility, manufacturing equipment and fabrication process (i.e. welding, bolting, etc.). IAS verifies that the fabricator has an in-house certified quality control inspector and certified welders. To main their accreditation, fabricators are reassessed annually by IAS and undergo two unannounced audits annually by an IAS-accredited inspection agency.
