IAS Establishes New Technical Advisory Council on Sustainability

IAS has seen an increase in demand for accreditation across many of its programs related to the field of sustainability. To address this demand and to begin developing accreditation criteria for commissioning agencies, IAS has established a Technical Advisory Council (TAC) on Sustainability. The International Code Council's International Green Construction Code (IgCC) establishes requirements for certain buildings to be commissioned. To aid code officials and regulators who enforce commissioning, as required by the IgCC and other regional codes, the ICC has published a Commissioning Guideline.

In May 2012, the ICC Commissioning Guideline (ICC G4-2012) Committee requested IAS to develop criteria for minimum qualification, certification and training of commissioning agents in order to aid building officials with enforcement of code-mandated commissioning requirements. The IAS Board of Directors established the Task Group on Building Commissioning Accreditation to address this request. The work of this task group will fall under the purview of the TAC on Sustainability. Once the effort to develop accreditation criteria on commissioning is complete, the focus on the new TAC will shift to topics on sustainability in the areas of testing laboratory, calibration laboratory, and product certification agency accreditation.
