IAS Accreditation Committee Meeting Scheduled for June 7 in Los Angeles

The International Accreditation Service (IAS) Accreditation Committee meetings offer opportunities for stakeholders, accredited organizations, building officials and other interested parties to provide input on IAS' accreditation programs. The next committee meeting is scheduled for June 7 at the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles. The Accreditation Committee meets annually or more often as the need arises, in open, public hearings to consider new criteria and proposed revisions to IAS accreditation criteria. All proposed criteria are posted to the IAS website approximately 60 days before Committee meetings. Interested parties are invited to submit written comments by the designated due date and to make oral presentations during the meeting. IAS Accredits Castco Testing Centre in Hong Kong

Castco Testing Centre Limited is one of the leading independent commercial laboratories in Hong Kong and provides a wide range of services, including equipment calibration, construction materials testing, chemical testing, environmental testing, food testing, ground investigation and materials inspection. Last month, Castco Testing Centre's air and acoustic division obtained IAS accreditation to ISO/IEC Standard 17025; 2005 — "General Requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories" for specific tests listed in the scope of accreditation. CSA in Shanghai, Laboratory Accredited to Flashlight Standard

The OnSpex team in Shanghai, known as CSA Group Consumer Products Evaluation (CPE), is the first laboratory accredited by IAS to have the ANSI/NEMA FL1 flashlight standard included in its scope of accreditation. The FL1 standard includes lumen testing in a dark room, testing in an integrating sphere, impact testing by dropping six times onto a concrete pad, and water penetration. OnSpex is the 14th lighting lab accredited by IAS for U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR requirements. Alsalam Aircraft Company Achieves IAS Accreditation

Asse Alsalam Aircraft Company, located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, provides a wide range of technical services to many sectors. Through their extensive range of specialized support facilities both in manufacturing and testing, Alsalam provides support in ultrasonic testing, hardness testing, calibration, magnetic particle testing, portable and static radiography, dye penetration testing, eddy current testing, and many more areas of testing. IAS recently assessed Alsalam to verify compliance of its thermal and pressure calibration facilities and the competency of its staff per the requirements of ISO/IEC Standard 17025:2005 leading to the organization's accreditation. BSD SpecLink-E Expands References to IAS

Building Systems Design, Inc. (BSD) added specification language to several new sections of its SpecLink-E–December 2012 release for IAS-accredited inspection programs for concrete fabricators (AC157), testing laboratories (AC89), special inspection agencies (AC291), and its inspection program for manufacturers of metal building systems (AC472). Previous versions of SpecLink-E already include language for the IAS Fabricator Inspection Programs for Structural Steel (AC172). Click to continue


Buzwair Gases Gains ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation

Buzwair Gases announced that it has succeeded in attaining accreditation as a testing laboratory according to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories." It was assessed by the International Accreditation Service and received accreditation. The process required thorough testing of all fundamental laboratory components, which contribute toward a reliable and accurate production system. Buzwair Scientific & Technical Gases and Buzwair Industrial Gases Factories laboratory have established a very efficient system by investing in sophisticated instruments, analysers and gas chromatographs. Quality Management Systems and Special Inspection Agencies

As part of their enforcement of Chapter 17 of the International Building Code, building departments look to special inspection agencies for assessment of critical building elements from concrete, to soil studies, to the evaluation of post-installed concrete anchors. Given the expertise and attention to detail required of special inspection agencies, it is important that they are operating under a documented quality management system. The IAS Special Inspection Agency (SIA) Accreditation program provides onsite assessments at the SIA's offices and at jobsites and can provide assurance to building departments of the competence of agencies working in their jurisdictions. Accreditation Helps Manage Risks Throughout the Food Industry

Accreditation is increasingly important to verify competence of testing labs and inspection agencies working in the food industry. The March issue of Food Safety Magazine featured the article "The Role of Accreditation Bodies in Supply Chain Risk Management — Accreditation Helps Manage Risks throughout the Food Industry" written by IAS Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Patrick McCullen and IAS Quality Manager Mohan Sabaratnam.

 
  2013 World Accreditation scheduled for June 9. IAS will be one of the accreditation bodies from more than 60 countries participating in World Accreditation Day. IAS is a recognized accreditation body and a signatory member of both the International Accreditation Forum and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation.     New York City Special Inspection Agency Training in May. IAS is an approved accreditation provider by the New York City (NYC) Department of Buildings.   IAS Honors Huynh at LA Basin Chapter Banquet. The ICC Los Angeles Basin Chapter held its 2013 Annual Business Meeting at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif. IAS President Chuck Ramani presented Outgoing Chapter President Truong Huynh with a plaque recognizing his service in helping the Chapter achieve its goals during his tenure.     Technical Assessors Recruitment.
