Letter from the president

As we transition to 2018, I will remember 2017 as one of the most important years in the history of the company. In October 2017, Raj Nathan was named president of the International Accreditation Service (IAS), effective with my retirement on March 31, 2018. Raj brings the utmost competence, integrity and empathy to the job, traits that will take the corporation to new heights.

This past year also saw tremendous progress forward for IAS as we commenced a new accreditation program for medical testing laboratories under ISO/IEC Standard 15189:2012, and deployed a state-of-the-art, interactive website — linked to assessor and customer portals with 24/7 access to the database — to allow for better project management and an enhanced web experience to our clients.

As always, IAS staff strives to ensure that we fully satisfy the needs of all our clients, and that our corporate goals for the calendar year are all met. IAS staff have embraced the deep-rooted belief that success is not guaranteed, but something we need to earn, every day by hard work, integrity and empathy. This deeply embedded corporate culture will surely help continue to guide IAS into continued success in the future under the direction of Raj Nathan.

As in the past, volunteer members of the IAS board of directors under Chairman James Toscas, our Accreditation Committee under Samuel Palmer's leadership and the seven technical councils have been working hard to guide the organization as it evolves from a mid-sized accreditation body to a major player in the global accreditation community. I salute these volunteers for their years of dedicated service to IAS.

I pay tribute to ICC Board President Jay Elbettar, members of his board and ICC Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims for their untiring support of IAS and the principles we stand for. Likewise, IAS Board Chair James Toscas will be ending his stellar career on the IAS board this coming spring. I personally owe a lot to him for his contributions to IAS over his long tenure on the board.

On behalf of the IAS staff and management, I wish our clients and stakeholders another successful new year.

C.P. (Chuck) Ramani, P.E., CBO
