Seminar update: 2015 IECC Essentials.

Andrew Klein is the subject matter expert for this one-day seminar that examines the critical concepts of the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). These concepts provide a basis for the correct use of the code in the design, plan review, inspection, and analysis of projects. It provides a clear understanding and correct use of the requirements identified by these basic code provisions, tables and categorizations. Participants will apply the code in clear-cut situations and build their understanding of the intent of the code when asked to make code compliance decisions.

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be better able to:

  • Locate general topics in the 2015 IECC.
  • Locate applicable tables in the 2015 IECC for specific situations.
  • Apply code requirements to real-world situations.
  • Explain the intent behind a code requirement.
  • Identify borderline scenarios as compliant or noncompliant.
  • Identify essential code components for designing energy-efficient building thermal envelopes; energy-efficient mechanical design principles; and electrical power and lighting systems.
"The 2015 edition of the IECC is exciting in that it provides designers with considerably more compliance options over those permitted under the 2012 edition," Klein said. "This update also expanded its scope of system controls, further emphasizing the importance that automation plays in overall energy reduction."

2015 IECC Essentials is an ICC Premium seminar that uses the Energy Code Essentials publication as the workbook. Energy Code Essentials can also be purchased as a stand-alone publication at ICC Store.

Klein, P.E. is the principal of A S Klein Engineering, PLLC, a professional engineering firm located in Pasco, Wash. A dually licensed Chemical and Fire Protection Engineer, his career began with plans examinations and inspections for code compliance of high-hazard occupancies and the processes and storage that occur within them. As energy management grew as a primary focus of facility managers and developers, Klein's responsibilities expanded to include energy code compliance. Now a Certified Energy Manager, he has helped facilities understand and manage their energy costs as well as obtain compliance with applicable energy codes and desired above-code programs.
