CBO, CFM testing now offers more
options to certification holders.

The Certified Building Official (CBO) and Certified Fire Marshal (CFM) programs unveiled changes to the testing modules last year. To provide maximum flexibility for individuals pursuing a CBO or CFM designation, ICC is now offering the new testing modules in 2009 and 2012 code years.

Beginning July 1, the CBO or CFM modules will be available in paper-and-pencil testing in the 2009, 2012 or 2015 code years, or in computer-based testing in the 2012 or 2015 code years. Individuals may also mix and match code years in pursuit of either designation. On the "new" path, individuals have three years to complete all required modules for either CBO or CFM to receive the designation. Register for an exam now and begin your path to a CBO or CFM designation.

Individuals who passed either the 01, 02 or CFM examinations prior to January 1, 2015, may continue to pursue the designation on the "old" path, but must complete all modules by December 31, 2016.

Read frequently asked questions and see a chart of the modules for the Certified Building Official or Certified Fire Marshal designation.
