Jim Huggins, Technical Director for the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (ICC-SRCC), has announced his plans to retire at the end of this year.

Huggins has been involved in developing standards, testing methods, and certification programs for solar heating and cooling products since 1974, when he began testing solar collectors at the University of Texas at Arlington. Upon his graduation with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1976, he began his career as a research engineer at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) and earned his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida.

Huggins was named Program Director at FSEC in 1994 and the Technical Director for ICC-SRCC in 1997. He also managed FSEC's testing and operations division for four years simultaneously. Huggins joined ICC-SRCC full time in 2011.

"Jim has had a great career in the solar heating and cooling industry and has left an amazing legacy," said ICC-SRCC Executive Director Eileen Prado. "His expertise and professionalism is highly regarded around the world."

Earlier this year, ICC-SRCC named Shawn Martin as its Director of Technical Services. Martin has been working closely with Huggins and will assume his responsibilities. "Shawn is well known within the PMG community, both internally at ICC and with external customers, and he brings a wealth of knowledge to ICC-SRCC in his new capacity," Prado said. "Shawn has been involved in ICC-SRCC activities since June and has brought the professional approach and attention to quality that he was known for as a member of the Government Relations staff."
