The ICC Preferred Provider Program reached a milestone of 300 providers in its network in May. This is a major accomplishment for all of those who have partnered in this innovative program to further the goals of education in the built environment. Achieving this milestone during the May 2016 Building Safety Month, the Preferred Provider Program was launched just a short time ago, in November of 2014.

Together, ICC Chapters, governmental units, associations, private educators and industry have been able to make available a large array of courses in various areas of building products, building construction and building safety to support the growing and demanding needs of the building construction industry. One of the main pillars of ICC five part strategy, the Preferred Provider Program, currently offers more than 350 training opportunities via the Preferred Provider Program website at http://ppp.iccsafe.org/ or www.iccsafe.org/PPP in diverse areas of building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy and many other specialty topics. (ICC Education Five Part Strategy: Premium Core Training; Preferred Provider Program; Online University; Retooling Education Committee; Staffing for the Future).

The Preferred Provider program has contributed to strengthening the credibility of the Continuing Education Units (CEU) for certification renewal by currently requiring 40 percent of the total CEUs to be from the high-quality training by ICC or Preferred Providers, and 50 percent of total CEUs starting July 1, 2016. ICC Chapters, as well as Industry and other members of the Preferred Provider network have seen a benefit in being able to offer CEUs for the great training they provide either onsite classroom style or online in the form of eLearning courses or webinars.

"The American Wood Council has been involved with the ICC Preferred Provider Program from its inception and is one of the leading suppliers. AWC website visitors looking for Preferred Provider CEUs can easily sort our courses by accreditation type and our status as a Preferred Provider gives additional credibility that our courses are high quality resources for code officials. It also positions AWC as a top-of-mind source of information for many code officials who are looking for wood related building code information," said Vice President of Technology Transfer John "Buddy" Showalter.

The easy-to-use, friendly and robust Preferred Provider website has continuously been improved to better serve the Preferred Providers as well as those seeking education. The website currently provides a Preferred Provider directory as well as a catalog of Preferred Provider courses. The "Student Courses" tab allows for search by multiple criteria to easily and quickly find the right training of interest.
