The ICC has posted a "call for committees" to recruit interested diverse members who want to influence the direction that ICC takes for the future. Details can be found online.

As chairman of the Fire Service Membership Council (FSMC), I invite you to consider applying for one of the seats on the Governing Committee. The entire FSMC plays an important part in ICC as an advocate for concerns and issues that are of particular interest to the fire service, to assist ICC in increasing the participation in the ICC code development process, and to advise ICC on programs and policies, legislative matters, code adoption issues and such other matters as the Council deems appropriate. The Governing Committee oversees this mission.

The Governing Committee typically has two face-to-face meetings during the year: one at the spring Committee Action Hearings and one at the autumn Annual Conference. The Governing Committee currently has about one teleconference each month. ICC reimburses Governing Committee members for travel and lodging expenses for those authorized face-to-face meetings.

Seats on the Governing Committee are nominated by leading fire service organizations: the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Association of Fire Fighters, the National Association of State Fire Marshals and the International Code Council. Generally, you must be a member of one of these organizations (except ICC) to be considered for nomination.

Candidates are elected by the FSMC and serve a three-year term of office. You can be eligible for reappointment to a second term. There are six positions eligible for consideration this year. (Two of these openings are set aside for International Association of Fire Chiefs' appointees from their Southeast and New England regions. One is for the National Association of State Fire Marshals. If you would like to grow your career, learn about the "big picture" ideas and issues around the code development process and help shape the direction of ICC, I encourage you to apply. The application deadline is September 8, 2016.

International Association of Fire Chiefs - If you would like to be considered for appointment to one of the two positions representing the IAFC, please submit your application material to the Division President who represents your region.  They will then forward it to IAFC headquarters for verification and review.
