International Code Council Senior Vice President of Government Relations Sara Yerkes joined a small group of the Opportunity America Jobs and Careers Coalition and the Association for Career and Technical Education at a private dinner on Sept. 28 with Representative Todd Rokita (R-IN), Chairman of the House Education and Workforce Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education.

Among the topics discussed was the reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, which provides funding for states to finance technical training programs. The Code Council is a strong supporter of the Act's reauthorization. "This bipartisan bill is timely and important to thousands of schools nationwide that can benefit from federal funding," Yerkes said. "This meeting provided a solid step forward in ensuring its passage and continued support of the education of America's future workforce."

The Opportunity America Jobs and Careers Coalition brings together employers and associations representing construction, manufacturing, hospitality and IT. The primary goals are to shine new light on the need for workforce training.
