Are you a professional inspector with experience in design, construction and/or inspection of factory-built housing? We may have the perfect opportunity for you.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently purchasing and transporting hundreds of factory-built homes to citizens impacted by the recent flooding in Louisiana, South Carolina and surrounding areas. FEMA contracts with the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), public service corporation with decades of experience providing essential regulatory, program management, and engineering services, to ensure construction and delivery of code compliant, safe, and durable factory-built homes. The Institute provides impartial evaluations, research and technical assistance to reduce the burden on federal, state and local government offices in the United States, and has deep roots in national, state and local communities in meeting the needs of citizens recovering from disaster.

As construction of these homes is anticipated to significantly increase over the next few months to meet needs, IBTS is looking to educate, equip and deploy experienced inspectors to assist in this regard. Preference will be given to those with experience in design, construction and/or inspection of factory-built housing.

As the Code Council looks to expand the value of the Disaster Response Network for members and jurisdictions by providing training, education and volunteer opportunities, we hope you'll consider participating with IBTS on this initiative. This is an excellent occasion for International Code Council Disaster Response Network members to assist communities and expand their education and professional development concerning disaster resilience.

Please contact IBTS's Paul Hancher at PHancher@ibts.org, or by phone at 703-867-7971, for additional information and/or to participate in this effort.
