A Delegation of governmental ministers, professors and construction professionals from Peru, and representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the International Code Council visit the Building Division of the city of Anaheim on Oct. 4.

A Delegation of governmental ministers, professors and construction professionals from Peru, and representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the International Code Council visited the Building Division of the city of Anaheim, Calif., to get a better understanding of U.S. building department operations, processes and procedures, specifically relating to using wood in construction. As lumber is not commonly used in Peru, the USDA coordinated the visit with several agencies from Peru to see how the U.S. successfully uses lumber in construction.

The Anaheim Building Division staff provided an overview of the city, the division and operations. The delegation visited a construction site that is utilizing lumber. Inspection Supervisor Oscar Davalos did an amazing job as translator for the group. Following the site visit, the delegation had lunch at the Anaheim White House and enjoyed some local hospitality. One of the USDA staff members told Bob Heinrich, building official of the city of Anaheim, that the presentations and visit in general exceeded their expectations.
