The ICC Board of Directors recently approved a new reinstatement program for expired certifications from ICC and its legacy organizations Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA); International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO); Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI); and the Council of American Building Officials (CABO). Prior to the new program, certifications more than six years past the initial expiration date were considered expired and required retaking the certification exam.

More than 8,000 individuals are eligible for reinstatement under the new program. To reinstate an expired ICC certification, an individual must show proof of earned continuing education units (CEUs) within the prior six years, pay a renewal and reinstatement fee, and complete the reinstatement application.

To reinstate an expired certification from a legacy organization, an individual must show proof of earned CEUs within the prior six years, pay a renewal and reinstatement fee, complete the reinstatement application, show proof of original certification, and show proof of employment in the code enforcement industry.
