ASSE International Scald Awareness Task Group releases white paper.

The ASSE International Scald Awareness Task Group has released a new white paper — Guidelines for Temperature Control Devices in Domestic Hot Water Systems.

The white paper was written to educate code enforcement officials, general public, and the plumbing industry on potential scalding hazards associated with domestic hot water at the point of use. The report highlights where each temperature control device should be used, while providing an easy to use reference tool on page 17.

The reference guide features a number of hot water applications, including:

  • Individual Shower and Tub/Shower Combination Valves (ASSE 1016)
  • Hot Water Distribution Systems (ASSE 1017)
  • Individual Supply Fittings –Temperature Actuated Flow Reduction Devices (ASSE 1062)
  • In-Line Pressure Balancing Devices for Individual Fixtures (ASSE 1066)
  • Tempered Water Through a Single Supply Pipe (ASSE 1069)
  • Temperature Control Devices with Downstream Mixing Permitted (ASSE 1070)
  • Mixing Valves for Plumbed Emergency Equipment (ASSE 1071)
