Leadership is an important part of what we do in our jobs every day — making sure our communities are safe and mentoring the next generation of code officials.

At the International Code Council's Annual Conference and Building & Safety Design Expo on Sept. 10-13 in Columbus, Ohio, participants will have many opportunities to learn from great leaders. Likely the most famous of those leaders will be one of Ohio's favorite son, Archie Griffin, the keynote speaker at our Members' Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Griffin — the only two-time winner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy and a three-time, All-American — will share some of his valuable life experiences both on and off the field.

In 2014, Griffin was honored as All-Century Player by the Tournament of Roses Association, in celebration of the 100th anniversary Rose Bowl game. He played in four consecutive Rose Bowls under legendary coach Wayne Woodrow "Woody" Hayes. He was also a first-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals, where he served as co-captain and played for seven years.

Included in the NCAA's 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes and a member of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame board of directors, Griffin is now Ohio State University's senior advisor for Advancement after serving for 11 years as the president and chief executive officer of the Alumni Association (OSUAA).

During his time as OSUAA president and CEO, Griffin used his leadership skills to make it possible for all alumni to stay connected to Ohio State and strengthen the status of the university.

Legendary Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes famously said of Archie Griffin, "He's a better young man than he is a football player, and he's the best football player I've ever seen."

A sought-after speaker and humanitarian, Griffin serves on many boards and foundations. He has been a Director of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. since 2000. He also serves as a director of Motorists Mutual Insurance Company, trustee for Diamond Hill Funds and member of the governing committee for The Columbus Foundation.

Clearly, you'll not want to miss this great opportunity to hear from a legend. And, Griffin is available to meet and greet attendees following the luncheon.

But, here's your two-minute warning! Early-bird registration for the ICC Annual Conference ends Aug. 4. Members and non-members alike can attend the Members' Luncheon to hear Archie Griffin speak.
