October 5 marks the second annual Energy Efficiency Day, a growing collaborative energy efficiency awareness campaign. Last year, 175 companies, government agencies, utilities, cities, and other national and regional organizations joined #EEDay2016 to promote the benefits of energy efficiency, particularly through social media.

ICC members are joining industry stakeholders to help expand the reach and voice of this effort. Here are four ways you and your organization can spread the word about the benefits of energy efficiency.

  • Visit the Energy Efficiency Day website and sign up. Sign up as an individual or as an organization to receive information and ideas on how to get involved, including fun facts to share on social media.
  • Take the Lightbulb Challenge or the Office Lighting Challenge. Agree to replace at least one light bulb with an LED and share your experience. If each US household uses just one LED bulb, Americans could save $500 million per year.
  • Ask mayors/governors to officially proclaim Oct. 5 Energy Efficiency Day. Download a sample proclamation to share with your mayor and governor.
  • Create and share your own content. Amplify the news about Energy Efficiency Day and the money-saving benefits of saving energy. For ideas on creating and sharing content, visit the Energy Efficiency Day website; visit and like the Energy Efficiency Day Facebook page; share blog posts; and utilize emails, newsletters and social media to spread the word. Also, tell your own energy efficiency success story with videos, photos, graphics and other content.
