In memoriam: William "Bill" Rehr

Retired Code Council staff member William E. "Bill" Rehr passed away Jan. 30, 2018.

Rehr retired in 2015 after more than 22 years with the Code Council as a staff engineer with Technical Services. He served as staff secretariat for the International Fire Code and the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code, and provided technical support internally for product development, training and certification.

Rehr was a fixture at code development hearings for years and responded to countless ICC Member requests for code opinions and his expertise on fire-related requirements in the codes.

Prior to joining the Code Council, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served two years on the USS Midway CV41 as a Quarter Master 3rd Class and valued reservist.

After being honorably discharged, he spent the next 27 years with the Wheaton Fire Department serving as a fireman, assistant building director, and fire marshall for the city of Wheaton, Ill.

"Bill always represented ICC as a true gentleman and has gained the respect of ICC, its membership and the fire-safety community at large," said Edward L. Wirtschoreck, ICC Manager of Standards.

He was a good friend and colleague to many. He will be greatly missed.
