| With a heavy heart, we share the sad news that Emory Rodgers passed away on March 8, 2018. Those of you who were fortunate enough to know Emory understand the loss his family, friends and our association have experienced. Emory was a good friend to many, a kind and generous person, and an unwavering supporter of the work of the International Code Council. "Emory is a legend in the code official community," said Code Council Board President Jay Elbettar, P.E., CBO, LEED AP, CASp. "He was a mentor to many, and he dedicated his career to building safety and the codes. He will be greatly missed." "In honor of Emory's life and legacy, I asked all Code Council offices to lower their ICC flags to half-staff. Emory dedicated many hours to the Code Council, and his work on the development of the I-Codes affected more than just those who knew him personally," said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. "Emory's impact on our profession is immeasurable. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, but never forgotten, as his legacy will be forever captured in the fabric of our state and national family of codes," said Gregg Fields, CBO, CBMO, president of the Virginia Building & Code Officials Association (VBCOA). Emory spent more than four decades working in the building safety profession, from city and state government to private consulting. He was the deputy director of the Building and Fire Regulation Division at the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, a building official in Arlington, Va., and an active participant in the creation and ongoing development of the International Codes. He served as president of Building Officials and Code Administrators International, one of the founding organizations of the Code Council. Among many other recognitions, Emory received the 2015 Mortimer M. Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Institute of Building Sciences, the 2013 Jack A. Proctor Meritorious Award for Long Term Special Achievement from VBCOA, and the 2009 Bobby J. Fowler Award from ICC.
