Building Safety Month Kickoff with the Birmingham Barons
Recognizing the men and women who play an important role in public safety by ensuring the buildings we occupy are built safe!
During the month of May, a number of leaders in industry and regulatory compliance will actively take part in Building Safety Month (BSM), as established by the International Code Council (ICC). A public awareness campaign to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures, Building Safety Month reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system.
The Code Council will present a Building Safety Month Kickoff event with the Birmingham Barons taking on the Mississippi Braves at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6th at Regions Field located at 1401 1st Ave South, Birmingham, Ala. The Birmingham Barons — a Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox — are a minor league baseball team based in Birmingham, Ala., that play most of their games at Regions Field.
The Code Council — a proud member of the Birmingham Business Alliance — and the Birmingham Barons will welcome several leaders in industry and professional associations to come out and help educate the public during the Building Safety Month event, including the International Association of Electrical Inspectors Alabama Chapter, Granger Plastics, the Code Officials Association of Alabama, Home Depot, EM Services, Alabama 811, Greater Birmingham Home Builders Association, State Farm and Big Dog Promo.Supporters of the night will have information tables and displays set up in the concourse located at the main entrance.
This special Building Safety Month event with the Birmingham Barons promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience that the entire family will enjoy. The first 1,000 fans, age 13 and older, will receive a free cooler and t-shirt; a specially designated kid's activity area will be available with coloring sheets; Code Council volunteers will be on-hand to provide information about building safety and the services ICC provides; NASCAR legend Bobby Allison will be signing autographs at the ICC booth; and Bobby Allison, along with an ICC special guest, will be throwing out the first pitch.
Building Safety Month, founded by the ICC, is celebrated by jurisdictions worldwide during the month of May. The campaign is presented by the ICC and its 63,000 members worldwide along with a diverse partnership of professionals from the building construction, design and safety community. Corporations, government agencies, professional associations, nonprofits and more come together to support Building Safety Month because they understand the need for safe and sustainable structures where we live, work and play.
