Welcome to ICC's 2015 Annual Conference.

Welcome to the Aquatic Capital of America, Long Beach, Calif., for the International Code Council's 2015 Annual Conference, Group A Public Comment Hearings, and Building Safety & Design Expo.

With the theme, "Leading the Next Generation of Building Safety Professionals," this year's conference includes two special presentations — the "Journey to Leadership" education session and "Partners for Future Success" Chapter program — that address our industry's future workforce, as well as several other events that will make it a professionally rewarding and enjoyable experience.

We are very grateful to our California host committee — the California Building Officials, Los Angeles Basin Chapter, North California Fire Prevention Officers, Southern California Fire Protection Officers, and code officials from the city of Long Beach — who helped us put together an exciting and informative conference. We hope you have a great week in beautiful Southern California!

Fowler ride takes in scenic Southern California.

The 12th Annual Bob Fowler Motorcycle Ride was held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27, prior to the start of ICC's 2015 Annual Conference. Departing from Long Beach, participants took in the sights of Southern California, the magnificent scenery of the Pacific Coast and inland areas, and even made a stop at the 1st Annual Ron Burton Golf Outing.

The popular ride is organized each year by Ron Nickson, Vice President of Building Codes for the National Multi-Housing Council, and supports the Fowler Foundation, which honors the memory of the first chairman of the ICC Board of Directors Bobby J. Fowler.

1st Annual Burton Golf Outing raises funds for future leaders.

Recognizing the need to encourage and mentor the next generation of code officials and to provide for the continued education of individuals who seek a profession in code administration, the Past Presiding Officers (PPOs) of the International Code Council have embarked on an effort to provide training and resources needed to address the critical need for future leaders in our profession. The 1st Annual Ron Burton Golf Outing, held at Recreation Park 18 Golf Course in Long Beach, was the first fundraising event of the PPOs and celebrated the life and work of William Ronald "Ron" Burton, a renowned code expert who worked on many code-related projects for ICC, Building Owners and Managers Association International, and the National Association of Home Builders.

WICED Chapter gives back to SoCal community through Habitat for Humanity.

The ladies of the Women in Code Enforcement and Development (WICED) Chapter of ICC put on their hard hats and work gloves, and came together on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Santa Ana, Calif., to work on renovating a home for those in need through Habitat for Humanity. In beautiful SoCal weather, the women worked on repairing the roof, tearing up floorboards inside the house, and hauling debris out to large dumpsters.

WICED is the first national professional International Code Council Chapter, with representatives from all over the United States representing municipal jurisdictions and private industries. Formed in 2007, the Chapter promotes the value and recognition of women in the arena of code enforcement and development through mentoring, advocacy and education.
