ICC Voting Members elect 2016-2017 Board officers, directors.

International Code Council Voting Members elected Board officers and directors during the association's Annual Business Meeting at the 2016 Annual Conference in Kansas City, Mo. M. Dwayne Garriss, Georgia State Fire Marshal, was elected President of the ICC Board. Mission Viejo, Calif., Building Official Jay Elbettar was elected Vice President, and Anne Arundel County, Md., Assistant Director of Inspections and Permits Department William R. Bryant was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Voting Members also elected representatives to sectional and at-large positions on the board.

Klein: Building smarter transportation and more livable cities.

Monday's Opening Session featured special guest speaker Gabe Klein, author of Start-Up City: Inspiring Private and Public Entrepreneurship, Getting Projects Done, and Having Fun, and former Department of Transportation director under Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration in Chicago and former Director of the District DOT under Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.

Sims and Olszowy discuss new Safety 2.0 presidential initiative.

International Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims interviewed Board of Directors President Alex Olszowy during the ICC Members Forum on Monday. Sims asked Olszowy to share a few highlights of his visits with Members and Chapters during the last year, asked what it's really like serving as President of a 60,000-member association, and delved into what inspired Olszowy's new signature presidential initiative — Safety 2.0: Building Careers for Today's Generation.

Moya partnered with ICC Board President Alex Olszowy to deliver a special presentation on the official launch of ICC's Safety 2.0 program, which Olszowy detailed in his President's Report delivered during the ICC Annual Business Meeting.

Seven are chosen as Honorary Members.

Voters approved seven individuals as International Code Council Honorary Members during Monday's Annual Business Meeting. Qualified candidates for the Honorary Member distinction have demonstrated outstanding service to the International Code Council or one of the legacy model code organizations. Names were proposed by the Board of Directors and confirmed by a majority vote of the Governmental Member Representatives at the Annual Business Meeting. This year's honorees are: Ronald Hoover, Stephen Jones, Tina Rakes, Kevin Scott, Maureen Traxler, Steven Winkel and Gilbert Gonzales.

Conference attendees immerse themselves in the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City.

Conference Host Chapters invited attendees to experience the game of college basketball at the College Basketball Experience during the Welcoming Event on Monday. The Sprint Center is not only the home of men's collegiate basketball history, but also houses interactive opportunities such as three-point shooting, free-throw shooting, calling the highlights of an actual NCAA basketball action and much more. Add in some Kansas City barbecue and the city's very own Boulevard Wheat and Pale Ale beers, and it was an ultimate evening of fun for conference attendees.

Drones, Energy Efficiency Zone are big draws at networking luncheon.

The Energy Efficiency Zone sponsored by RESNET, is new to the trade show floor this year and features manufacturers, suppliers and organizations displaying and discussing the latest energy efficiency technologies and products.

Drone experts will also be on hand to show how this exciting new technology is helping municipalities, and those in the building industry, in the areas of floodplain mapping, pre- and post-construction surveys, building information modeling, master planned developments, and real-time project management data.

Public Comment Hearings begin tomorrow.

The 2016 Group B Public Comment Hearings begin Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 8:00 a.m. Central at the Kansas City Convention Center. The Group B International Codes consist of administrative provisions in all codes; structural chapters in the International Building and International Existing Building Codes; building and energy chapters in the International Residential Code; and all chapters in the International Fire, International Energy Conservation and International Wildland-Urban Interface Codes. The hearings will be webcast live on the ICC website.
