Group C Code Development Cycle Results Available

 

The Final Action on the 2014 Proposed Changes to the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) is now available on the Code Council website. The Validation Committee certified the results in accordance with Section 10.1 of CP 28 Code Development.

The Summary Report includes items considered at the Public Comment Hearings in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Oct. 1-3, followed by the first ever Online Governmental Consensus Vote (OGCV) held Oct. 17-31. Approved changes from the 2014 Code Development Cycle will be published in the 2015 IgCC. See page 5 of the report for the OGCV results.




ICC 2015/2016/2017 Code Development Cycle Begins

Work is well underway on ICC's 2015/2016/2017 Code Development Cycle that begins with the Group A International Codes. This will be the first full cycle that utilizes cdpACCESS, ICC's new cloud-based system that allows for online collaboration, code change and public comment submittals, submission of floor modifications, and online voting. A change to section 3.3.5.6 of Code Council Policy 28 also is new to this cycle that addresses cost impacts of code change proposals. Deadline for Proposed Changes to the Group A I-Codes is Jan. 12, 2015

ICC is accepting proposed changes to the Group A International Codes through Midnight Pacific on Jan. 12, 2015. All proposed changes should be submitted through cdpACCESS, ICC's cloud-based system for code development. The Group A codes consist of the Egress, Fire Safety and General provisions of the International Building Code, the Mechanical and Plumbing provisions of the International Residential Code, and the International Existing Building, Fuel Gas, Mechanical, Plumbing, Property Maintenance, Private Sewage Disposal, Swimming Pool and Spa and Zoning Codes.




Code Action Committees Holding Joint Meeting in December

ICC's Building Code Action Committee and Fire Code Action Committee will hold a joint meeting Dec. 9-10 in Schiller Park, Ill. The purpose of the meeting is for committee members to finalize proposed changes to the Group A Codes that are due Jan. 12. Read the meeting notice. ICC's PMG Code Action Committee and Sustainability, Energy & High Performance Building Code Action Committee will continue preparing Group A changes via conference calls.




CTC Continuing Work on Care Facilities and Elevator Lobbies

Due to the duplicative nature of the Code Technology Committee (CTC) and Code Action Committees (CACs), the ICC Board of Directors came to the difficult decision to sunset the CTC by the end of the 2016 Code Development Cycle, and assign certain Areas of Study to the applicable CACs for the 2015 and 2016 cycles. The CTC is continuing to work on care facilities and elevator lobbies for the 2015 and 2016 cycles and will meet next month in Chicago. Read the meeting notice.





ICC and SRCC Unite to Assure Safety and Fast Access to Markets for Solar Industry

The Code Council and the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation have agreed in principle to join forces and combine resources to support the solar industry and communities, and meet growing market demands. The agreement was announced during ICC’s 2014 Annual Conference, Group C Public Comment Hearings and Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.




Comments Requested for ICC 900/SRCC 300-201 and ICC 901/SRCC 100-201
The ICC Solar Thermal Standard Consensus Committee has developed the second public comments drafts of ICC 900/SRCC 300-201 Solar Thermal Systems Standard and ICC 901/SRCC 100-201 Solar Thermal Collector Standard. Public comments are requested on these drafts. The deadline is Dec. 29.


ICC and ASABE Announce New Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler Standard

The Code Council and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers announce the release of a new ANSI consensus standard to classify sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, set uniform testing procedures, and establish minimum design and performance requirements for commercial and residential landscape irrigation components. The ASABE/ICC 802-2014 Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler and Emitter Standard represents collaboration among a wide range of industry stakeholders, including major manufacturers, major water utilities, landscape architects, regulators and academia.




ICC A117.1 Second Public Review Draft Available for Comments

The ASC A117 Committee on Architectural Features and Site Design of Public Buildings and Residential Structures for Persons with Disabilities has developed the second public comments draft of the ICC A117.1-2015 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. Public comments are requested on this second draft dated Nov. 7, 2014, and must be provided on the ICC Public Comment Form. The deadline is Dec. 22.




Development of Commissioning Standard Continues Next Month

The next meeting of the ICC Commissioning Standard Consensus Committee will be held as a telephone conference on Dec. 2. The purpose of this meeting is for the committee to continue development of the ICC 1000 Standard for Commissioning. Read the meeting notice.




Testing Stage Set to Begin for New Online Plan Review Service
The Code Council and Avolve Software are in the process of identifying a client for the testing stage of ProjectDox, ICC's new online plan review service. Once the soft launch is completed and the configuration is fully operational, ICC and Avolve will introduce the new system that will streamline ICC's ability to provide comprehensive plan review services. "A lot of work has gone into developing this new program and we are very excited about rolling out ProjectDox to our Members and customers," said ICC Director of Sales David Hunter. Significant Changes to the 2015 International Plumbing Code
Replacement of building sewers by the pipe-bursting method has been used for many decades and is especially useful where excavation of the existing sewer is difficult and costly because of parking lots and other items on the ground surface that would need to be removed and replaced. Accessibility: Audible and Visible Alarms Primer
All persons and situations must be considered when specifying a fire alarm system. With few exceptions, audible alarms are required throughout a building, and visible notification is required in all public-use areas and all common-use areas. Private areas also must be designed to allow for the installation of visible alarms when a person with a hearing impairment requests that accommodation. Continue reading story


Remembering the Tech Guy and the Geek
Richard A. Vognild, PE, CBO, longtime Director of Technical Services for the legacy group Southern Building Code Congress International who played a pivotal role in the development of the first comprehensive set of International Codes, passed away Aug. 9. He was 80. Friends and former coworkers remember Vognild for his professional accomplishments as well as his distinct personality that featured a unique sense of humor. Continue reading story
