Scholarship categories varied from Emerging Leader to Veteran Leader and included a dedicated Chapter Match/First-time Attendee award category. Click here to see the winners.

Code of Honor professional development scholarships will help ensure that the I-Codes continue to reflect the consensus view of officials at all levels of government by providing funding to Governmental Member Voting Representatives. 2010 Building Safety Month Recognition Off to A Great Start

Each year, governors, mayors, county executives and other officials sign proclamations, official statements and letters of recognition to support Building Safety awareness. This year, many jurisdictions across the nation have proclaimed 2010 Building Safety Month during April, helping get the campaign off to a robust start.

On April 13, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, Governor Charlie Crist and the Florida Cabinet (right) passed a unanimous Resolution proclaiming May in Florida as Building Safety Month and presented the Building Officials Association of Florida the Resolution during an official state ceremony. Other states and jurisdictions to issue early proclamations so far include: Arizona; Colorado; Illinois; Iowa; Maine; Nebraska; Nevada; Rhode Island; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Utah; Washington; City of El Mirage, Arizona; City of Mount Dora, Florida; City of Dunwoody, Georgia; Village of South Elgin, Illinois; City of Palm Desert, California; City of Martinsburg, West Virginia; and the Ohio Building Officials Association.

If you have a proclamation or photos you would like to have posted on the Building Safety Month website, email them to Sarah Murphy or forward a copy of your jurisdiction's proclamation to ICC Headquarters, 500 New Jersey Avenue, NW, 6th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20001.

Building Safety Month PSA DVDs — More Available by Popular Demand       Revisioning America — Las Vegas Vision of a New-Zero Retrofit
The new Building Safety Month DVD Public Service Announcement (PSA) featuring CBS Early Morning Show/Weather Channel Home Expert Danny Lipford are still available and licensed for use now through the end of 2010. Email the Foundation today to request a free copy.

In the PSA, Lipford, host and executive producer of the nationally syndicated television show "Today's Homeowner with Danny Lipford," delivers an inspiring message about the critical role of code officials and building codes in general. Additionally, downloadable versions are available. The new PSA is licensed for use at any television station.
A green demonstration project in Las Vegas shows the nuts and bolts of a green retrofit. The team preserved the integrity of the existing structure while bringing it to net-zero energy.

As a research project, Green Builder Media's ReVISION House Vegas, in every way, pays homage to energy and sustainable retrofits. The emphasis here is on "retro," as this project is a purposeful revival of the modernist residential design made famous by Joseph Eichler in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Click here to read more.

Building Safety Month Comes A Long Way in the BSJ Online

The April issue of Building Safety Journal Online features two guest-written articles pertaining to Building Safety Month. Three decades of Building Safety Week success is illustrated in "You've Come A Long Way, Building Safety." Now a month-long observance, those involved with building and maintaining safe, sustainable structures get ready to observe the 30th anniversary of Building Safety Week, and take stock of how it all started.

In "Keep Safe at Home" televison and radio personality Danny Lipford offers safety tips to homeowners in a coordinated effort with the International Code Council Foundation to get the word out about Building Safety Month.
