CDRAC Committee Meeting Reports and Summary Online

The Code Development Review Ad-Hoc Committee (CDRAC), charged with reviewing Member feedback regarding—and addressing critical issues impacting—the Code Council's current code development procedures, posted all four committee reports and a summary of CDRAC Recommendations online. The CDRAC's final meeting, which is open to Members and stakeholders, is planned for February 3-4 in Rosemont, Illinois.
 

13 Earn Coveted ICC Master Code Professional Status

The achievement of the Master Code Professional (MCP) designation from the International Code Council is the highest level of ICC Certification and has become the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the building and fire safety profession. Currently, there are less than 600 MCP professionals worldwide, and their achievements are a benefit to the code enforcement profession, as well as their communities.


Haiti Tragedy Is Avoidable with Enforceable Building Codes

One year after the horrific impacts of the earthquake in Haiti, we are reminded anew of the consequences of failing to build safe and sustainable communities. The Code Council renews its call for a commitment from the Haitian government, the United Nations and the donor nations supporting the Haiti recovery effort to seize the opportunity to create a disaster-resistant nation that can serve as a model for others. Deadline Extended for Raising the Profile Award Nominations

The Code Council is accepting nominations for the Raising the Profile Award. The award is given to an individual or organization whose acts have raised public awareness of the work accomplished by code enforcement personnel to improve public safety. The award, begun in 2008, is presented during a prominent Building Safety Month activity. Award applications are available here. Deadline for nominations has been extended to February 1.


2011 Fire Prevention and Safety Grants for Code Adoption and Enforcement

Grants of up to $1 million per jurisdiction are now available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for its Fire Prevention and Safety Program. Information on the grants is available in the Code Council's Guidance and Application Kit.

Explore Critical Disaster Mitigation Issues

While natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes and tornados are inevitable, disastrous consequences are not if policy-makers, designers and builders plan successfully. The ENR Mitigating Disaster through Design & Construction Conference will explore issues that are critical to advance the dialogue regarding disaster mitigation.   Member Feedback Sought for Update of ISO Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule
Because the ISO Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS) impacts ICC Members across the U.S., the Code Council has agreed to assist ISO in gathering feedback regarding the BCEGS Update Project. ISO's objective is to identify sections of the current grading evaluation that may need revision and to modify where necessary. ISO has been conducting BCEGS surveys since 1995 and has in its database information about more than 15,000 building code enforcement departments nationwide. Click to continue.

  2010: The Year in Perspective
The new year prompts us to review and reflect on the events and accomplishments of 2010. Despite the current economic downturn, it was a year that saw continued growth for the Code Council in terms of I-Code adoptions, the debut of Public Version 2.0 of the International Green Construction Code, restored ICC Member benefits, and numerous other activities and initiatives that enhanced the building safety and fire prevention industry.
