First Edition of ISPSC Available |

The first comprehensive swimming pool and spa code to upgrade pool safety and meet the requirements of the Virginia Graeme Baker Act will soon be available for adoption by jurisdictions and use by contractors. The International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC), published by the International Code Council and coordinated with the other I-Codes, is expected to be available in March and will include the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals standard, "American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance in Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Hot Tubs and Catch Basins." | ||

ICC Seeks Nominations for Elected Official, Raising the Profile Awards | ||
The Code Council invites nominations of qualified honorees for two awards that will be presented during May, which is Building Safety Month, at the association's headquarters in Washington, D.C. The Raising the Profile Award recognizes an individual or organization for acts or contributions that raise public awareness of accomplishments by code personnel that improve public safety in the built environment. Criteria for the ICC Elected Official of the Year Award include demonstrating a commitment to building code adoption and enforcement and encouraging adoption of codes to improve building department administration and safer construction. Deadline for nominations is February 23. | ||

ICC Announces Launch of 2012 National Certifications | ||
The 2012 National Certification exams based on the 2006, 2009 and 2012 editions of the International Codes will be offered via paper-and-pencil testing starting with the first quarterly-scheduled administration date in March. Beginning in July, the 2012 International Code-based National Certification exams also will be offered by computer-based testing. |

The 2009 International Code-based National Certification exams will continue to be offered as computer-based testing through at least June 30. |

ICC Files Comments on CMS Proposals Addressing Healthcare Facilities | ||
The Code Council has filed comments on two rulemaking proposals issued by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The two proposals address separate areas, but are of real importance to the code community as both address codes required to be followed by hospital and healthcare facilities. | ||
ICC PMG Executive Director Honored at World Toilet Summit in China | ||
Jay Peters, Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) Group Executive Director for the Code Council, is one of three 2011 honorees to be inducted in the World Toilet Organization Hall of Fame. The recipients are chosen based on their extensive efforts and contributions to solve the global sanitation crisis that claims the lives of thousands of people every day, most of who are children. Peters was selected particularly in recognition of his and the Code Council's consistent contributions to the global sanitation movement, especially in pioneering and initiating the official launch of the United Nations International Year of Sanitation in 2008. | ||

Kendzel, Executive Director and CEO of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), accepted an appointment to the IAS Technical Advisory Council for the newly approved IAS Personnel Certification Body Accreditation Program. The program (AC474) will recognize companies and organizations that provide the highest quality personnel certification services. It is also an expansion of the IAS Work Force Accreditation Program that includes accreditation for training agencies (AC371) and curriculum developers (AC372). | ||
