CODE BASICS: Building, Based on the 2009 International Residential Code |
For gas-fired appliances, the International Residential Code (IRC) prescribes two methods for obtaining combustion air from the outdoors or from a space freely communicating with the outdoors, such as a ventilated attic. One method requires two openings or ducts. The second method allows combustion air for gas-fired appliances to be obtained through a single opening when the size of the opening is increased to meet three criteria. |
The Building Code Basics series based on the 2009 International Building, Residential and Fire Codes explains requirements using non-code language to help you understand the material or explain it to others. Technically accurate and easy to understand, these are the perfect resources for builders, owners, students, plan reviewers, inspectors and permit technicians. |
