Dallas Results Set Stage for Final
Action Hearings in Portland

During 16-hour sessions that spanned a week, more than 740 delegates debated and considered action on 1,600 proposed changes to the Group A International Codes at the 2012 Code Development Hearings in Dallas. Proposed changes were considered to the International Building, Fuel Gas, Mechanical, Plumbing and Private Sewage Disposal Codes. View the hearings results.
Interested parties now have the opportunity to have their voices heard during the Group A Final Action Hearings October 24-28 in Portland, Oregon, as ICC Voting Members finalize the Group A portion of the 2015 I-Codes. The Final Action Hearings will follow the Code Council's 2012 Annual Conference.

Safe communities are the result of dedicated professionals who use codes and standards, science, and years of experience and learning to ensure public safety in the buildings where people live, work, learn and play. If you know an exemplary individual or group whose contributions to building safety, code enforcement, public service, community service or fire prevention are commendable, nominate them for an International Code Council award.


Consensus Committee on Residential High Wind Construction to Meet

The ICC Consensus Committee on Residential High Wind Construction will meet June 25-27 in Washington, D.C., to develop and consider proposals to the 2008 edition of ICC 600, Standard for Residential Construction in High-Wind Regions. ICC 600 provides prescriptive design and construction methods for masonry, concrete, wood- and steel-framed residential structures. Read the meeting notice.


Less-Active 2012 Hurricane
Season Predicted

The 2012 hurricane season promises to be less active than normal, according to a forecast released by the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project. Forecasters predict the 2012 season, which begins June 1, will have 4 hurricanes, compared with an average of 6.5 hurricanes between 1981 and 2010, and 10 named storms, compared with an average of 12. To help you get ready, the Code Council offers numerous tips and recommendations.


President Obama Declares May as National Building Safety Month

For the second consecutive year, President Obama signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring May as National Building Safety Month. The Presidential Proclamation reads, in part: "Whether protecting our communities from fires, floods, earthquakes, severe storms, or other disasters, building safety professionals play a critical role in making America safe, strong, and sustainable."

 

  SRCC and ICC Sign MOU for a Unified Vision
The Solar Rating & Certification Corporation, a non-profit, independent, third-party certification entity for solar hot water collectors and systems, joined the Code Council in signing a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines an effort to develop, augment and promulgate codes and standards for solar thermal systems complemented by an array of support products, training and education related to solar thermal energy.


  Falcone Continues to Advocate for Code Officials and Building Safety
Santa Cruz County, California, Building Official Tony Falcone, the 2010 recipient of the ICC Community Service Award for his development of an elementary school outreach program that teaches students about the important role building safety professionals play in saving lives, took his message to students at Bayview Elementary School as part of the county's annual celebration of Building Safety Month.   OBOA and SBOA Hold Joint Annual Conference
The Ohio Building Officials Association (OBOA) held its annual Joint Conference in conjunction with the Southwest Building Officials Association (SBOA) on March 18-20 in West Chester, Ohio. The ICC Board addressed the Membership and installed the newly elected officers, including first-ever WOMAN President of OBOA, Renee Snodgrass.

  ARCOM's MasterSpec Names IAS for Quality Assurance
Designers who use ARCOM's Masterspec software to design metal buildings are now provided with language specifying manufacturers of metal building systems that are accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). The IAS Inspection Program for Manufacturers of Metal Building Systems (AC472) is listed in Masterspec's Third Quarter Update that was released in December 2011 to assist designers in meeting the quality assurance requirements for metal building manufacturers.   Holmes Public Service Announcement Now Available
The Foundation is delighted to provide a public service announcement (PSA) by Mike Holmes, 2012 Building Safety Month Honorary Ambassador. The PSA is designed for use by code officials on local television channels and media outlets, and for posting on Chapter websites, social media platforms and for use in safety demonstrations and presentations. Each ICC Chapter will be receiving a copy of the PSA by mail in the next few days.
