ICC Policy Maker Award Honors N.Y. State
Senator Little, Va. Director Shelton

New York State Senator Betty Little and Bill Shelton, Director of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, are recipients of the 2014 International Code Council Policy Maker of the Year Award. The award recognizes contributions that increase public awareness and leads to improved public safety. Sen. Little, who is serving her sixth term in the state legislature, was nominated for her ongoing support of local government officials and advocacy efforts to secure appropriations to pay for code books for code officials in New York State. She also is a longtime supporter of Building Safety Month. Under the leadership of Shelton, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development administers statewide building codes. He is a key advisor to the Governor, and the Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade, on state building code issues.

ICC Western Regional Office Celebrates Grand Opening

The wait is finally over. After months of unpacking boxes, setting up furniture and settling into new cubicles and offices, ICC staff were eager to show around visitors to the new Western Regional Office during the Grand Opening celebration last week on Nov. 13. ICC Members, clients, partners, Board members and visiting staff toured the 23,000-square-foot space that features room for ICC, ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and International Accreditation Service (IAS) staff, as well as spacious training facilities to host industry meetings and events, a conference center with enhanced wireless capabilities, a bookstore and break areas.

"This is a big step forward for ICC and our staff here in California," said ICC Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims. "We've been part of the fabric of the state of California since 1922 and we've had a few homes over the years, but we're fortunate to now have our home here in Brea, Calif."
