ASHRAE Joins NAHB, ICC to Develop National Green Building Standard
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), ASHRAE and the International Code Council (ICC) have agreed to jointly develop the 2015 edition of the ICC/ASHRAE 700 National Green Building Standard. Significant Changes to the 2012 International Fire Code
Part of the intent of the International Fire Code is to control conditions that can affect the safety of fire fighters and emergency responders during operations. One condition is obstructions on the roofs of buildings; poorly identified or unidentified obstructions on building roofs can become entanglement hazards or can be potential pathways for stray current if the electrical ground is somehow compromised. A physical guard is required for certain obstructions on roofs with a less than 30 degree slope. Continue reading story

Job Numbers Robust, Despite Harsh Weather
Construction firms added jobs in 38 states between January 2013 and January 2014, while 27 states experienced construction employment gains between December and January, according to an analysis March 17 by the Associated General Contractors of America of Labor Department data. Association officials said the fact so many states added construction jobs for the year and month despite harsh winter conditions in many parts of the country is a sign that demand appears to be recovering.
