Accredits ICC-ES PMG

ICC Evaluation Service, LLC (ICC-ES), announced that its Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) program has been accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) with the following scope of accreditation. "This is a great day for us," said Dawn La Fleur-Qualley, PMG Certification Program Manager. "SCC is a tough accreditor, and we've been working diligently and have successfully satisfied their requirements. The accreditation is a real achievement, and will give a major boost to the PMG program." Continue reading.


ICC-ES Establishes Joint Program with NTA to Provide Additional Resources to Manufacturers of Structural Insulated Panels

ICC Evaluation Service, the industry leader in performing technical evaluations for code compliance, has entered into a joint program with NTA, Inc. The joint program is designed to provide expedited service to manufacturers of Structural Insulated Panels who wish to be issued an ICC-ES Evaluation Report. Anchor Provisions Undergo Significant Changes in the
2012 International Building Code

Since its introduction in 2000, the International Building Code (IBC) has been the preferred model code for states, municipalities and other jurisdictions throughout the U.S. The publication of the 2012 IBC, represents another milestone in the International Codes legacy. Evaluation Committee Highlights

The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee met June 7-9 in Los Angeles to consider new proposed acceptance criteria for alternate products and for products where additional clarification is needed in the code; and for existing criteria that need to be revised to reflect current code, updated standards or changes to products. Twenty-six items were considered, with 20 approved, five held for further study and one disapproved and the existing criteria withdrawn. The next ICC-ES Evaluation Committee meeting will be held October 11-13 in Birmingham, Alabama.


ICC-ES Experts to Speak at Singapore Conference
on Green Buildings

Two ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) environmental experts have been invited by the U.S. Department of Commerce to speak at the Conference on Green Buildings September 12-13 in Singapore. The conference is entitled, "Green Buildings and Green Growth Approaches to Encouraging a Positive Green Building Climate." Rob Brooks, ICC-ES Director of Environmental Programs, will participate in a panel discussion entitled, "How Green Claims Are Made: Assessing Green Building Rating Systems and Verification of Claims" and Evangelina Hirata, a current member of the ICC-ES Advisory Board, will address the topic of "Mexico's Adoption and Adaptation of National and International Green Building Technologies."


Smart Receives P.E. License

We are pleased to announce that Jason Smart passed the Professional Engineer's exam in May and is now registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Alabama. He has been promoted to Staff Engineer. Jason joined ICC-ES in the Birmingham office in October 2005. Among his areas of expertise are dowels, fasteners, joist hangers, engineered wood and structural composite lumber. Working with other staff members, he developed a procedure for the engineered wood industry that significantly improved the efficiency of obtaining an ICC Evaluation Report. Continue reading.
