ICC-ES Evaluation Committee Approves AC Revisions to
Include 2012 I-Codes

The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee met in Los Angeles to consider newly proposed Acceptance Criteria (AC) for alternate products and products where additional clarification is needed in the code, and existing criteria in need of revision. Twenty-three proposals were approved and two held for further study. The October meeting will be held in St. Louis.


Call for 2013 Evaluation
Committee Members

The ICC Evaluation Service is seeking candidates to serve on the Evaluation Committee starting January 1. Committee members evaluate proposed acceptance criteria prepared by staff concerning building products. Three hearings, each two or three days, are scheduled annually. Learn more.


ICC-ES Upgrades Evaluation Reports for Anchorage to Concrete

The attributes of anchors are critical to maintain the structural integrity of concrete structures and components to resist static, wind and seismic tension, and shear loads. The enhancements made recently to Powers Fasteners' Power Stud+ SD1 wedge expansion anchors and the Wedge-Bolt+ screw anchors product evaluations now attest to these anchors' greater versatility and enduring strength.

Armstrong Produces EPDs
for 9 Products

To help architects, interior designers, building owners and other specifiers better understand the environmental impacts of its commercial ceiling products, Armstrong Commercial Ceiling Systems has produced Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for nine of its products. ICC-ES Environmental Programs Expand Technical Staff Expertise

ICC Product Development technical staffer Peter Kulczyk is the new Program Manager for ICC-ES Environmental Programs. Kulczyk has been a member of the ICC staff since 2007. He has written publications and training programs related to both green building practices and building codes, and taught related classes.

He holds ICC certifications in Green Building-Residential, Plans Examiner and Building Inspector, and as a CalGreen Inspector. He is also certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED AP Homes Professional. Kulczyk spent four years in the U.S. Navy onboard the Destroyer, USS Reasoner.


ICC-ES Staff Receive Industry Recognition

Four ICC-ES staff recently garnered recognition for their accomplishments in the industry:
• Mahmut Ekenel (top left), Ph.D., P.E., and Brian Gerber (top right), S.E., recently published "Building Code Requirements for Inspections of Adhesive Anchors in Concrete" in ACI SP-283 Understanding Adhesive Anchors: Behavior, Materials, Installation, Design.
• Steven R. Thorsell (bottom left), AIA, CSI, Program Coordinator, ICC-ES Environmental Programs, was re-appointed to the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Architectural Registration Examination Subcommittee. This is Thorsell's 16th year serving on the committee and representing ICC.
• Will Utsey (bottom right), P.E., passed his P.E. exam on the first try and was promoted to staff engineer. Utsey's primary focus includes cold-formed steel decks, cold-formed steel framing members, and fasteners installed in cold-formed steel and wood members.
