ICC-ES Issues Report on Innovative Simpson Strong Frame Connection

ICC-ES has issued ESR-2802 for the newly developed Simpson Strong-Tie Strong Frame steel special moment frame connection. The ICC-ES ESR gives specifiers, builders and code officials the confidence that this product's new approach to construction in seismic zones meets code requirements. "This is an example of an innovative product becoming available in the building market," said ICC-ES President Shahin Moinian.

ICC-ES Marks 10 Years of
Nationwide Consolidation

Ten years ago, if a nationwide manufacturer introduced a new product for the construction industry it was more than likely they would need to purchase three evaluation reports to demonstrate to code officials and specifiers that the product was code compliant. That all changed on Feb. 1, 2003, when three regional code organizations began operating as one consolidated association: the International Code Council. Click to continue.

ICC-ES PMG Offers Free Listing to
the Requirements of UPC-India

Plumbing product manufacturers wanting to distribute in India are eligible for a free ICC-ES Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) listing to the UPC-India when they list their products with ICC-ES to the requirement of the U.S. Plumbing Codes, or transfer an existing listing to ICC-ES. This new program will allow manufacturers to expand into the growing plumbing products market in India.

Adjustable Steel Columns—Revisited

Previous ICC-ES articles have addressed how to determine which load values reported in ICC-ES evaluation reports on adjustable steel columns should be used. ICC-ES evaluation reports provide design values for use in two different design methodologies, allowable stress design (ASD) and load and resistance factor design (LRFD). When in doubt, it is always safe to use the ASD values, as these will always be lower than the LRFD values for comparable column lengths. Click to continue.

Combined Lead Law/Performance Certifications for
Plumbing Fittings Available through ICC-ES PMG

The ICC-ES Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) Listing Program will now list plumbing fittings (faucets, supply stops, etc.) to the requirements of ASME A112.18.1, NSF/ANSI 61, NSF/ANSI 372 and the lead plumbing laws all under the same certification report. ASME A112.18.1/CSA B125.1-2012 has been revised to include low-lead requirements for plumbing fittings intended to convey or dispense water for human consumption through drinking or cooking, which were written separately under a variety of state laws throughout the U.S. as well as NSF/ANSI 372.

ICC-ES Staff Engineer Jason Smart, P.E., gave a presentation to members of the International Staple, Nail and Tool Association (ISANTA) on the history and current working relationship between ICC-ES and the association during its annual meeting in January in New Orleans. The presentation was co-developed by Smart and ICC-ES Senior Staff Engineer Elyse Levy, S.E. Levy oversees all fastener-related evaluations. Smart oversees all evaluations related to engineered wood construction. ICC-ES and its predecessor companies have a long history of working with ISANTA to inform code officials, architects and engineers about power-driven nails and staples.
