ICC-ES and Innovation Research Labs create testing, listing and evaluation service for product manufacturers.

ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and Innovation Research Labs have entered into a cooperation agreement to enable ICC-ES to bring testing, evaluation, and listing under "one roof," creating a "one-stop" conformity assessment agency. A key benefit will be the availability of a front-end test plan, agreed upon by all parties, which will speed up the listing and evaluation report process. It will also minimize delays in obtaining testing data.

U.S. Federal District Court clears path for ICC copyright complaint against IAPMO.

A Federal Court on Monday cleared the path for ICC Evaluation Service, LLC (ICC-ES) to proceed with its copyright infringement complaint against the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, Inc. (IAPMO) when the court denied IAPMO's motion to have the case dismissed. In a 25-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan struck down IAPMO's arguments to dismiss ICC-ES' Federal copyright claims as "unavailing," noting that side-by-side comparisons of ICC-ES' copyrighted materials with IAPMO's allegedly infringing works that were presented to the Court as evidence along with ICC-ES' complaint, "could permit a reasonable observer to conclude that appropriation occurred."

ICC-ES educational training held in three jurisdictions.

International Code Council Executive Vice President of Compliance Programs Michael Gardner and ICC-ES Vice President of External Relations and Client Services William Gould traveled to Fairfax County, Va., Alexandria, Va., and the District of Columbia to teach seminars on the evaluation report and listing creation process, the importance of the ICC-ES continuous compliance concept, and how the information in an evaluation report or a listing should be read and interpreted. With support from Justin Wiley and Bryan Soukup of the ICC Government Relations Department, the three sessions, combined, reached nearly 90 employees in various code enforcement disciplines, including plan review and inspection.

The presentations are part of an overall undertaking to increase awareness of the ICC-ES role in product evaluation within the enforcement community. A part of the campaign is an educational program that can be presented to a chapter by a regional Government Relations representative. For additional information on the program or to discuss presentation logistics, contact Justin Wiley.

A powerful tool for verifying code conformity.

A good tool in the hands of an experienced craftsman can help safely finish the job with efficiency, bringing a design concept to reality. Before any building product is approved for installation though, there's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. A major gate in the overall product approval process is independent product evaluation.

Continuous code compliance with ICC-ES Evaluation Reports.

Building officials hold the ultimate responsibility of safeguarding the public through proper execution and enforcement of provisions in the International Building Code. Complicating their charge is the fact that more unique, resilient structures are being developed by design professionals every day using new and innovative building materials. In order to meet very demanding architectural and structural requirements for these state-of-the-art structures, manufacturers must continually develop more efficient and better performing building products. In turn, these alternative building products must be properly evaluated for code compliance.
