Accreditation Committee Examines Criteria, Provides Oversight on IAS Programs The IAS Accreditation Committee met in Norwalk, California, to discuss proposed revisions to current IAS Accreditation Criteria, and to consider new criteria and to provide oversight on IAS programs. The Accreditation Committee provides opportunities for stakeholders, accredited organizations and interested parties to provide input into IAS policies, procedures and accreditation criteria in a public forum. IAS Establishes New Technical Advisory Council on Sustainability IAS has seen an increase in demand for accreditation across many of its programs related to the field of sustainability. To address this demand and to begin developing accreditation criteria for commissioning agencies, IAS has established a Technical Advisory Council (TAC) on Sustainability. The International Code Council's International Green Construction Code (IgCC) establishes requirements for certain buildings to be commissioned. To aid code officials and regulators who enforce commissioning, as required by the IgCC and other regional codes, the ICC has published a Commissioning Guideline. Click to continue. |
IAS Attends CSI Annual Convention IAS Program Manager Sandi McCracken and Marketing Manager Greg West attended the Construction Specification Institute's 56th Annual Convention, September 11–12, in Phoenix, Arizona. During the event, McCracken and West participated in the education program and exhibits, and met with representatives of Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice, Building Systems Design (BSD) and CSI. Fire Prevention and Life Safety Department Accreditation Program Promoted at NASFM Conference Florida Fire Marshal Julius Halas and Bureau of Fire Prevention Chief Casia Sinco along with IAS Program Manager Preet Bassi gave a presentation on the IAS Fire Prevention and Life Safety Department Accreditation (FPD) Program during the 2012 National Association of State Fire Marshals Annual Conference in Meredith, New Hampshire. The Florida State Fire Marshal's Office Bureau of Fire Prevention is the first IAS-accredited fire prevention department in the country. The presentation revisited how the FPD program was jointly developed by IAS and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, shared the experience of becoming accredited, highlighted the benefits of seeking accreditation, and provided an overview of how to get started and what to expect. Special Inspection Agency Training Set for October IAS will present a two-day training class October 17–18 on New York City Special Inspection Agency Accreditation. The training is for special inspection agencies seeking accreditation to meet the requirements in New York City. The training will be expanded to cover key elements of ASTM Standard E-329:07, Standard Specification for Agencies Engaged in Construction Inspection and/or Testing, which was recently adopted by New York City as optional criteria for the qualification of special inspection agencies. |

IAS Offers ISO/IEC Standard 17025 Training IAS is offering ISO/IEC 17025 (Laboratory) Training October 17–19 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Knowledge of this standard is critical to testing or calibration laboratories as well as to inspection agencies whose inspection activities involve product certification or testing. |

IAS Staff Metrologist, B.N. Taranath, Takes APLAC Training B.N. Taranath, an IAS staff instructor and assessor, attended the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) peer evaluator training in June in Bangkok, Thailand. Taranath is a Metrologist by training and an instructor for IAS's Uncertainty of Measurements training course. He regularly performs assessments for IAS accredited laboratories in the Middle East and Europe. Click to continue. |
