ICC CEO Sims named to
ANSI National Policy Committee.       

ICC Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO, has been appointed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Executive Committee as a member of the institute's National Policy Committee. The committee is responsible for broad-based policy and position decisions regarding national standards development process issues, government relations and public policy issues. "It is an honor to serve as a member of this committee and represent the interests of building safety professionals in creating standards development policy," Sims said.

ICC and RESNET sign affiliation agreement.       

A partnership between ICC and the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) will benefit members of both associations, support adoption and usage of the International Energy Conservation Code, and increase recognition of the Home Energy Rating System in the building safety community.

Call for ICC Renewable Energy
Advisory Council Governing Committee.       

ICC is inviting applications for four openings on the Governing Committee for the new ICC Renewable Energy Advisory Council. The deadline is February 7. Click here for an application. The Governing Committee assists the Executive Director and Technical Director of the SRCC (Solar Rating & Certification Corporation) Program, the ICC Board of Directors, and the new SRCC Board of Directors to develop and review standards, certification processes, and overall strategy. NIBS Consultative Council recommendations
highlight building industry priorities.       

ICC's Senior Vice President of Government Relations Sara Yerkes chaired the 2014 NIBS Consultative Council that recommends federal agencies support the adoption, administration and enforcement of building codes. It also suggests establishing mentoring programs to support technical/vocational curriculum that meets the needs of today's workplace, which reflects ICC's goals to support the workforce through its High School Technical Training Program. NGBS Consensus Committee to
develop formal actions on 2015 NGBS.       

The next meeting of the 2015 National Green Building Standards (NGBS) Consensus Committee will be held June 18-20 at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C. At this meeting, the committee will develop Formal Actions on Public Comments, Point System and Referenced Documents. Note that June 20 has been tentatively reserved and may not be needed based on number of public comments received. Read the meeting notice and agenda.

Childers one of six appointed to Texas
Industrialized Building Code Council.       

Waco Building Official Randall R. Childers, an ICC, Region X Coalition and Bluebonnet Chapter Member, is one of six industry professionals appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas Industrialized Building Code Council. The council oversees the inspection of industrialized housing and buildings to ensure state standards are enforced. Childers is a certified building inspector, residential combination inspector, building plans examiner and building code official. He also is a Board member of the International Association of Building Officials and a Board member and Past President of the Building Officials Association of Texas. He was reappointed to the council. Others named to the council include Mark Remmert, city of Round Rock and an ICC Past Member; Brian Eisenrich of Parsons Corp.; Steve Fitzpatrick of Fitzpatrick Architects; Jesse Rider of Rider Homes, Inc. and Rider Construction, Inc.; and William "Dubb" Smith of the W.F. Smith Company and Dubb Smith Homes.

RIBOA installs new officers; Chapter Merit Award presented.       

ICC Board member Richard Truitt attended the recent Rhode Island Building Officials Association meeting in East Greenwich, R.I., where he installed the new Chapter officers and presented the 2014 ICC Chapter Merit Award to Chapter President Wayne Pimental for the Chapter's work in establishing ICC's High School Technical Training Program in all nine high school technical programs in the state. The new officers are: President Wayne Pimental; Vice President Peter Scorpio; Secretary Tom DiFusco; and Treasurer Al DeCorte.

CCEASC holds annual
banquet, elects new officers.       

The Coastal Code Enforcement Association of South Carolina (CCEASC) recently held its Annual Banquet and Installation of Officers in Surfside Beach, S.C. ICC Board member Donny Phipps attended the event and swore in the new Chapter officers: President Mike Lee, city of Myrtle Beach; Vice President Richard Palmer, town of Summerville; Treasurer Shawn Brashear of Florence County; and Secretary John Harrah, city of Myrtle Beach. Honorary CBO certificate
presented to the late David Denney.       

Terrell, Texas, Chief Building Official David Denney passed away Jan. 4 after battling cancer. He was 55. Prior to his death, the 2012 Building Officials Association of Texas Code Official of the Year had a goal of obtaining his Certified Building Official certification — "Something he and all highly regard," explained Plano Chief Building Official Selso Mata — and thanks to the efforts of ICC CEO Dominic Sims and Irving Field Operations Manager Lawrence Crow, Denney was presented an honorary certificate on Dec. 23, 2014. "We thank Lawrence and Dominic and all associated with this grand effort," Mata said. "Delivered and was greatly appreciated," Crow added.
