ICC a valuable resource as L.A. property owners comply with historic seismic retrofit ordinance. Los Angeles property owners hoping to comply with the city's landmark seismic retrofit ordinance can rely on the International Code Council (ICC) Family of Companies to help make their buildings safer and more resilient. The Los Angeles City Council unanimously adopted the mandatory retrofit ordinance that will require an estimated 15,000 buildings be structurally rehabilitated so they can better withstand the effects of earthquakes. ICC, ICC-ES join IBS/KBIS for 2016 Design & Construction Week. The International Code Council (ICC) and ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) are supporting organizations of Design & Construction Week. The National Association of Home Builders and the National Kitchen & Bath Association will once again co-locate the NAHB International Builders' Show (IBS) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), January 19-22, 2016, in Las Vegas. The third annual event is anticipated to draw more than 110,000 industry professionals in the largest residential design and construction exposition in the nation. |

Development of solar heating and cooling standard continues. The Pool Solar Heating and Cooling Standard Consensus Committee (IS-PHSC) will hold its second meeting from 2-4 p.m. Eastern, Nov. 25, via conference call and web conference. The purpose of this meeting is for the IS-PHSC committee to continue the process of developing a prospective ANSI standard for solar heating and cooling systems used for residential and commercial pools, spas and hot tubs. Significant changes to the 2015 IFC. An addition to Section 607.6 (Protection of Fire Service Access Elevators and Occupant Evacuation Elevators) of the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC) has been made. This is a new requirement to ensure that devices designed to prevent water from infiltrating into fire service access elevator hoistways and occupant evacuation elevator hoistways are properly maintained. |

ICC Preferred Providers renew their commitment to building safety training — expand educational opportunities. ICC Preferred Providers continue their commitment to building safety training by renewing their annual membership and introducing additional online and onsite classroom-style training courses. "I was very excited about ICC's new Preferred Provider Program when it was first announced (November 2014). By becoming a preferred provider, our firm can now provide CEU's for clients that we couldn't before. The program has been very easy to use as we register classes. We look forward to continuing our partnership with ICC and the Preferred Provider Program," said Steve Thomas of Colorado Code Consulting, an Educator member of the program. |

DOE releases proposed rule on enforcement of regional standards for central air conditioners. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a pre-publication version of the much anticipated Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on the Enforcement of Regional Standards for Central Air Conditioners. A special working group of contractors, distributors, manufacturers, utilities and energy efficiency advocates submitted a proposal to DOE last fall. The DOE's version appears to closely mirror that proposed plan. |

The Code Council has announced the addition of Tracy Lendi, Ph.D., to the ICC team as its new Vice President of Training and Education. Formerly serving as the Director of Training and Development at SP Plus Corporation and UL University, Lendi brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in overseeing the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of training programs.
