New Electronic Voter Validation site open.

The improved International Code Council's Electronic Voter Validation Site is now open, and all Primary Representatives of current ICC Governmental Members are encouraged to access the new site and validate Governmental Member Voting Representatives (up to the maximum number available for your population).

Remember: Governmental Member Voting Representatives must be validated each year. Voting Representatives must be validated in order to participate in the upcoming 2017 ICC Annual Business Meeting activities in Columbus, Ohio.

ICC Code Development Process feedback due April 10.

Feedback received by the Feb. 15 deadline has been compiled into a Summary of Feedback Received, which is posted for comments with a deadline of April 10. Feedback is presented in a logical flow based on code development steps and is keyed to a corresponding number. When providing comments, please cite the feedback number. A proposed committee interpretation to Section 1030.1 General (Emergency Escape and Rescue) of the 2015 International Building Code/Section [BE] 1030.1 General (Emergency Escape and Rescue) of the 2015 International Fire Code is posted for review and comment by ICC Members until April 16.

The USGS issued its annual seismic-hazard forecast for the central and eastern United States. The updated maps, which highlight both natural and human-induced earthquakes, show that millions of Americans are likely to feel the earth shake beneath their feet this year.

Building & contracting trainees across the U.S. compete in Florida.

Associated Builders and Contractors announced the winners of the 30th annual National Craft Championships during its Careers in Construction awards ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This year's field of competitors featured nearly 170 craft professionals from 28 states competing for top honors in 13 competitions across 11 crafts. The International Code Council's Charles "Lee" Clifton, Director of PMG Resources/Government Relations, participated again as a judge for the plumbing and pipefitting craft competitions.

The contributing length of continuously sheathed portal frames (Method CS-PF) in low-seismic regions has increased by 50 percent in Table R602.10.5 of the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC).

2017 RESNET Cross Border Challenge awards announced.

The award winners of the 2017 RESNET Cross Border Home Builder Challenge, which helps promote the utilization of the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Index were announced at the 2017 RESNET Building Performance Conference. The RESNET Cross Border Challenge is a friendly competition between American and Canadian home builders to determine just how energy efficient builders can build.

BOAF & ICC work to increase awareness of building safety during Legislative Day 2017.

International Code Council Government Relations Senior Vice President Sara Yerkes, State & Local Government Relations Vice President Vaughn Wicker, Government Relations Regional Manager Tom Allen and ICC Compliance Programs Executive Vice President Michael Gardner attended the Building Officials Association of Florida (BOAF) annual Legislative Meeting dinner held at the Florida State University's Doak Campbell Stadium University Club. Code Council staff also attended the BOAF Board of Directors meeting, as well as the preparatory meeting for State Capitol visits with legislators, an event hosted by the AIA of Florida. BOAF Chapter members met with their legislators to increase awareness of BOAF and its mission to continue to protect lives and save property in Florida through building codes and state legislation.

Canandaigua Town Code Enforcement Officer Christopher Jensen was recognized as the first Master Code Professional in the State of New York by the International Code Council. This level of certification requires and demonstrates commitment, diverse knowledge of codes and a high level of self-initiative.

AAMA offers discount to ICC Members on fenestration training.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) is offering ICC Members the opportunity to enroll in the Fenestration Masters online training program at the AAMA member price until Dec. 31 using discount code ICCFM. As an ICC Preferred Education Provider, when participants earn either the Fenestration Associate or Fenestration Master professional certification, they also fulfill continuing education hours with ICC.

MWRDGC & Sloan partner on water conservation pilot program.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) and Illinois-based Sloan Valve Co. recently launched a water conservation pilot program that could save 585,000 gallons of carbon intensive potable water in the area annually, and ultimately impact the 1.4 billion gallons of water that is treated daily throughout Chicago's seven water-reclamation treatment plants.

Did you know?
In 1945, a B-25 bomber pilot crashed into the Empire State Building. The impact snapped the cable of the building's elevator shaft. By the time the carriage reached the bottom, 1,000 feet of cable had piled up beneath it, acting like a spring, which allowed the lone occupant in the car to escape injured but alive.
